Back-light Series : 43Photo -- Modeled solo sets, taken in neighborhoods and mod's homes/apartments/flats, are particularly appealing to me when shot against strong back light. Images in this gallery are drawn from the individual modeled solo galleries already up for viewing. The idea in all these modeled solo galleries is to catch the mod's personality amidst her own environment and belongings, to build context of the person she is. The shoots are in natural light, the subject pin-sharp against blurred surrounds whenever possible. My working lens for small spaces like homes/apartments/flats is 24-120mm equiv f/2.8-4, so limited bokeh capability, although when I can stretch out a bit, I've a 100mm equiv f/2 that works quite well.

Alton At Noon : An effort to capture good images at mid day.

You know, when 'conventional wisdom' says the light isn't 'good enough'. They aren't all gems in this gallery, but some are pretty good, I think. I also think I've proven that the light is good enough, and it really boils down to the same old question, is the photographer 'good enough'?

I don't think I'm done with Alton, Illinois just yet. Even the ugly parts are remarkably photogenic; though I am running out of time. If I don't get what I want by the end of summer '09, it's Adios Alton!

These are all shot with an Olympus E500. and the excellent 14 - 54 mm zoom lens.

Fort Myers, Florida : Photos taken at the 18th International HIV Drug Resistance Workshop, Sanibel Harbour Hotel, Fort Myers, Florida. Click on any photo to see the set larger or see the slideshow (strongly recommended!). I took these photos early in the morning or in the afternoons, after the talks had ended. Early morning in Florida was relatively cool and the mosquitos were fewer, but I noticed more animals were out later in the day.
