GHOSTED CROSSES
…there is incredible power to this photo...years ago a friend called and told me to get my camera gear and head over to her old apartment (she had moved out 2 years prior)...she didn’t tell me why but i trusted her implicitly and did as directed, not knowing what i would find… when i arrived i saw there had been a fire in that old duplex and the smoke from the fire billowed against the walls to "tattoo" the walls with the images of whatever had been hanging on those walls…(the tenant had decorated the den wall with crosses, crucifixes and a large rosary)...nothing has been done to this photo…it is like all of my photos…no photo-shopping or editing…my photos are of exactly what i encounter…this picture is exactly as i came upon the wall...i took the photo with my old Cannon AE1 (film) camera and went on my way…several years later this photo was hanging at the Memorial Park Starbucks (Houston) and much to my surprise i received an email from the woman who had lived there at the time of the fire---she was floored to see the photo of her "cross wall" hanging in Starbucks…needless to say, we soon met and she spoke of how seeing the photo had brought up all sorts of memories of that time (not a good time in her life) but the photo made her realize how great her life had been since...a year later i gave the photo to two girls who were admiring it in a different coffee shop (they said their mom collected crosses)...they took the photo to their mom and the next day I received a "thank you" email from their mother...it seems that her brother had died the day that i gave her the “ghosted crosses” photo and she was so touched that she has it hanging prominently in her home as an homage to her brother...
… powerful photo is this photo of "ghosted crosses"...
