KAP 2008-54: Citadel Hill, Halifax, Nova Scotia - October 15, 2008 : This was the maiden voyage of my new Levi-Light (ITW 9-ft. Levitation Delta Light) and wasn't initially intended as KAP but I had my rig just in case. Failing light but I got a few shots in a low wind situation. This is part of Halifax, Nova Scotia and the Halifax Harbour, photographed from high over Citadel Hill. Many years ago our family had a short holiday at a friend's cottage not too far from Pugwash and this town was the local hub for essential supplies. KAP 2013-8 - Victoria Island, Ottawa : <h1>Parliament Hill and Downtown Ottawa from Victoria Island - KAP 2013-8 - March 23, 2013</h1> Back to the land of snow and ice after a wonderful month of February in Australia. Recently I have made a couple of attempts to KAP the Wakefield bridge without any success so a couple of weeks have elapsed without succeeding with any kite aerial photography. Finally a nice day arrived to do some work with the Parliament buildings and the still frozen landscape. Here are some of the shots from this session. KAP 2013-21- Britannia Water Purification Plant and Deschenes Rapids : <h1>Britannia Water Purification Plant and Deschênes Rapids, Ottawa, Ontario - KAP 2013-21 - May 1, 2013</h1> The Ontario side of the Ottawa River at the Deschênes Rapids is the location of several features: the community of Britannia, the Britannia Water Purification Plant (serving the city of Ottawa), the Britannia Yacht Club, and Mud Lake which has become an urban wildlife watching location. Not too far upstream is Britannia Beach, a popular recreation area. The town of Deschênes, which shares the name with the rapids, is on the Quebec side of the river. KAP 2013-18 - Temiscouata-sur-le-Lac, Quebec : <h1>Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac, Québec - KAP 2013-18 - April 24, 2013</h1> I was looking for a park off the highway to eat a sandwich before continuing the drive home. I pulled off at Cabano, Québec, a town I had not previously visited. Although much of the signage reads Cabano, I have since discovered that the two villages of Cabano and Notre-Dame-du-Lac were merged in 2010 to become Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac. I found a very large park on the lakefront, Parc Clair Soleil, and had my lunch. At ground-level there were traces of snow and much brown dead-looking grass which might be less than inspiring to a snap-shooter on vacation but beyond that I saw a beautiful half-frozen lake, an intriguing small mountain on the other side of the lake, a lighthouse, a wonderful streaky sky, an interesting layout of storefronts and a park with plenty of room for kite-flyers to go wild. So, out came the gear and here are some of the better images from the session. KAP 2013-17 - Amherst, Nova Scotia : <h1>Amherst, Nova Scotia - KAP 2013-17 - April 23, 2013</h1> Anyone who has recently travelled to Nova Scotia on the Trans-Canada Highway has seen the wind farm at Amherst, Nova Scotia which is at the border between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. In fact, the Nova Scotia visitor's centre is a good place for viewing them. I chose to wander the dirt roads on the opposite side of the highway, which is part of the area used by Maritime Sod Ltd. for growing lawn turf. My shots of the turbines are quite distant but benefit from a foreground of rows of sod fields and the trans-canada highway itself. Also, I believe that one or two of my shots actually have all the wind turbines in the image which is another benefit from shooting from afar. I would like to get closer shots someday, and it would be interesting in the summer when the sod has turned green.
