Virginia by Cessna - 6/16/2007 : Taken from a Cessna 182 over eastern Virginia.

Back in my hometown for a weekend, I got a chance to fly with my dad around eastern Virginia in a Cessna 182. I spent some time trying different settings before setting the camera to force shutter speed to 1/250th/sec. In retrospect I should have gone with 1/500th as only about half of the pictures turned out sharp enough. Fortunately was taking 6-8 shot brackets for most everything so at least one image from each bracketed shot ended up nice and crisp.

It was a pretty hazy day, which really sucks the contrast out of everything. Processing these pictures was more challenging than normal as color correcting a leveled-low contrast picture usually leaves things oversaturated. Although it was a refreshing change from working on pictures that are almost undersaturated, it really wasn't any easier to fix in a way that's pleasing to the eye. I'm not sure there's really any way to avoid this short of just waiting for better weather. I tried both UV/Haze filters and a polarizer as well as without a filter and it was an issue with all configurations.
