Day 3: Giraffe Center, Kazuri, Crescent Lake : Our first day in Africa started with a visit to the Giraffe Center, where endangered Rothschild giraffes are bred & released back into the wild. They also take in injured wildlife, like the warthog who had a wire-snare wrapped around it's snout. Next up was "Kazuri" a place which employs women from around the area to make hand-crafted jewelry. Our final stop was Crescent Island Wildlife Sanctuary on Lake Naivasha. We were able to walk around with giraffes, impalas & lots of birds. A very unique experience! Our lodging was at the Sopa Lodge, which was a beautiful & serene place to end our first day.

Tanzania: Mbugwe Village : Visiting this village was pleasant break from all the animals. We visited a school where they sang some songs for us. I recorded the audio, so it's a wonderful treat to be able to listen to it & be transported back. Afterwards, we went to the town center to watch a performance of songs and dances. I even participated in one of the dances. The downside... I think I might be married to the older gentlemen who was my partner. The townspeople had a good laugh watching me try & dance. Me too!

Kenya: Lake Nakuru : Second stop - Lake Nakuru. This lake became famous from the thousands of flamingos which feed on the shores of this soda lake. It was quite smelly too. I stayed here for one night, so my one game drive was pretty uneventful. However, I was fortunate to see both black & white rhinos here. Only a small handful of reserves have both.

Zanzibar : After leaving Dar Es Salaam, we flew to the island of Zanzibar, located in the Indian Ocean off the Tanzanian coast. Most of our time on the island was spent in Stone Town, the island's historic port city. Stone Town is a sensory delight of exotic foods and spices, beautiful sunsets, and narrow alleyways filled with endless small shops.

Dar Es Salaam : Photos from Dar Es Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania. Dar was our first stop on the trip, and while there, we enjoyed a morning snorkeling trip on the Indian Ocean, sundowners at the yacht club, and a chance to catch up with our friends we'd not seen since our visit to Namibia in 2011.
