Day 4: Lake Nakuru : Today we visited Lake Nakuru, but not before stopping at a rest stop where fresh goat was served up at 9am. Nakuru was the only park we'd see rhinos in & we saw 7 white rhinos! Sadly, we didn't see the massive number of flamingos that should've been at the lake. When we returned to the lodge, I was entertained by a troop of vervet monkeys who literally surrounded my porch eating the flowers & raiding the lodge next door of their sugar packets. And while walking around the grounds, I saw several Colobus monkeys jumping around the main lodge!

Day 6: Amboseli, Masai Village & School : We spent time at a Masaai Village & school today. The chief, Joseph, was a wonderful host, introducing us to his family & explaining how the village operates. We walked a short distance to the school where we interacted with some of the older kids. Then we went back to the village where we were treated to a mock wedding celebration w/lots of dancing & singing. It was so beautiful! The afternoon game drive was filled w/lots of elephants, zebras & a gorgeous sunset on Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Day 5: Amboseli : Today was one of the longest drives on our trip: Lake Nakuru to Amboseli, with a pit-stop to view the Great Rift Valley. The first animal we saw in Amboseli was the very elusive Serval cat & then herds & herds of elephants. We saw our first lion pride here too, which Christian describes as "breathtaking". They were stalking a lone wildebeest which only added to the adrenaline rush (ended up being unsuccessful.) My wish was to see Mt. Kilimanjaro & that wish was granted shortly before we had to head back to camp... complete w/elephants in the foreground! This is a beautiful park, one of my favorites of the trip!

Days 1 & 2: Seattle to Nairobi : Our adventure started early on a Sunday morning... like leaving 5am early. We flew to Dallas w/a 4hr layover, then we were off to London w/a 3hr layover & on to our final destination of Nairobi, arriving at 10pm a day after we started. The most nerve wracking park of the trip was waiting for our luggage to arrive. We were on a 747 & our bags were the very last two pieces to come off the plane! Stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel & got a decent night's sleep, knowing 8am was only hours away! I was too excited to sleep, but I did!

Day 3: Giraffe Center, Kazuri, Crescent Lake : Our first day in Africa started with a visit to the Giraffe Center, where endangered Rothschild giraffes are bred & released back into the wild. They also take in injured wildlife, like the warthog who had a wire-snare wrapped around it's snout. Next up was "Kazuri" a place which employs women from around the area to make hand-crafted jewelry. Our final stop was Crescent Island Wildlife Sanctuary on Lake Naivasha. We were able to walk around with giraffes, impalas & lots of birds. A very unique experience! Our lodging was at the Sopa Lodge, which was a beautiful & serene place to end our first day.
