![The Ecuador Alphabet : Each year students from Southern Virginia University provide thousands of hours of service in their local communities and around the world. The mission of SVU is to prepare Leader-Servants and the university's motto is "Learn That Life is Service."
In May of 2009, ten SVU students and two faculty traveled to Ecuador to work with the Charity Anywhere foundation and help provide free medical and dental services to hundreds of patients who would not otherwise have the opportunity to see a doctor or dentist. While on these trips, the students assisted with cleaning teeth, taking vital signs, and providing immunizations. Students also volunteered at orphanages and provided children with donated clothing, educational materials, and much needed medical supplies.
The alfabettfotos used to create this piece of art were taken in Ecuador during last year's trip. It is one in a collection of works by Michael Gibbons, one of the co-leaders of the Ecuador service trip. Michael is Director of Student Support at SVU and is also the creator of alfabetfotos.com [spell it with an "F"].
In 2010, SVU students have participated in service oriented travel study programs in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. All profits from the sale of this print will help sponsor these efforts.
