D306-2013  Seed pods of a Chinese Scholar Tree  Styphnolobium japonicum, aka Pagoda Tree and Japanese Pagoda Tree.    There are many of these trees planted on parkings, and in landscaped settings, in Ann Arbor.  They bloomed very late this year, even later than their usual late summer bloom time, and the blooms persisted for many weeks.  Finally, when nearly every other tree had dropped its leaves, these trees still looked green . . . a combination of leaves and seed pods.    UM Central Campus, Ann Arbor  November 2, 2013
