Klamath Basin : Jean and I visited the Klamath Basin NWR near the California-Oregon border over the Christmas break so that we could see and photograph the eagles that are in this area. The Klamath basin attacts the most eagles in the lower 48 from December to February. We were in luck and we got to see more than 20 eagles roosting in trees at one location. One of the eagles, A-46 is famous, in his own way. He is named after Stephen Colbert of the Colbert report on the Comedy channel. Stephen Jr. is fitted with a GPS device that records his position once an hour, and the data is uploaded to a satellite every three days. You can track his progress on the Institute for Wildlife Studies website at www.iws.org.
