Ring-billed Gull : Gulls are a tough group to learn. Within each species there is tremendous variation as they proceed through their various molts on their way to adulthood. I decided to create this set of species specific galleries to try and collect various images i have captured to show the variety possible, and collect my notes on learning to age these birds.

Ring-billed Gulls are identified as ‘three-year gulls’. This means they take three years to obtain adult plumage.

Ohio Birding : Made a couple of stops in Ohio on a recent trip in search of Franklin's Gull. Was not successful on that endeavour, but still enjoyed some fall birding. Will have to return in the spring, some beautiful locations.

San Francisco Birding : I recently had the chance to visit San Francisco and do some birding. The trip revealed many firsts for me including the California Quail, Muscovy Duck, California Towhee, Western Scrub-Jay, Red-shouldered Hawk...and the list goes on. I think i could have spent a month walking around instead of a day...i love this city!

Florida Birding 2008 : Had the opportunity to do some birding in central Florida from at the beginning of June 2008. It was hot and humid...and the migrating birds are mostly gone - but there are still plenty of resident species to see. I managed 80 species of birds in the brief time i had available, including 5 lifers. The sites i visited included: Ocala National Forest, Viera Wetlands, Merritt Island (Blackpoint Wildlife Drive, Scrub Ridge Trail, Haulover Canal, Canaveral National Seashore), Scottsmoor Landing, Three Lakes WMA (Prairie Lakes), Gatorland...and various ponds/canals around the Disney Resort area in Orlando.
