Northern Flicker : Ever since I saw a Northern Flicker, I'd been wanting to capture this skittish but beautiful bird. I just didn't know where to find them and how to approach to them. I just happened to find out that they were wintering at Covington Park and at Big Morongo Preserve but I found that it's just much easier for me to find them at Covington Park than at Big Morongo.

American Coot : A grayish, sooty colored bird with a light colored bill that is somewhat uncommon here in the Northeast. Larger in size at 15 plus inches and wing span of 24 inches. It seems to have trouble taking off from the water as it is loud and awkward.

Virginia Rail : The Virginia Rail is a beautiful bird that is rarely seen as it hides in the reeds. A smallish bird of about 9 inches with a 13 inch wing span. These birds become flightless in their late season molts.

Hawkfest 2009 : The Hawkfest is held every year on the third weekend in September at Lake Erie Metro Park in Rockwood, Michigan. The hawks and falcon were part of the Michigan Hawking Club who had an exibit and allowed everyone to photograph some of their raptors. The birds were in excellent health and the handlers were great. The sharp-shinned hawk was trapped by one of the rangers, shown to the kids and then released by one lucky child to fly off again!

Snow Bunting : A small bird with a large wing span, 7 inches and 14 inches respectively. The Snow Bunting is a multi-colored bird in non breeding plumage which is how they are often seen here. Tans, whites, browns, and blacks.
