This Great Blue Heron I shot just north of the Seattle Arboretum along a bank of backwaters of Lake Washington. It is likely my favorite photograph of a bird to date. It took 20 minutes on my hands and knees crawling under blackberries and in the mud to get and was worth every thorn. I was no more than 15ft away.

Lord of the Dance! Michael Flatley, or dare I say, Baryshnikov? On a side note, got my instruction packet for Project FeederWatch so I can start counting birds this weekend :) And it seems our first snow of the year is the cure for my missing bird species at the feeders. Grackles, towhees, mourning doves, jays and juncos all made an appearance. But the robins, bluebirds, and thrashers are still off in the woods somewhere.
