Birds > popular today > Wilson's Snipe Gallinago delicata Earl Armstrong Road, Gloucester, Ontario Wilson's snipes have an interesting courtship display, where the male flies in circles through the sky, making a "winnowing" sound periodically. &nbsp;The winnowing is caused by air passing over the tail feathers in flight, and sounds very similar to the 1950s sound effect for UFOs, such as in The Day The Earth Stood Still.
Birds > popular today > Wilson's Snipe Gallinago delicata Cooper's Marsh Conservation Area, South Lancaster, Ontario A boardwalk trail runs through Cooper's Marsh not far from the shores of the St. Lawrence River. &nbsp;It is a breeding ground for several species of marsh birds, including this Wilson's snipe. &nbsp;This bird posed nicely for me on the boardwalk, even calling out for a couple minutes.
