Birds - Most Popular Today
Athena, a Barn owl (Tyto Alba), was hit by a car while hunting prey running across the road. Getting hit by cars is the most common cause of raptor injuries. Athena lost her eyesight in one eye, and now has depth perception problems that cause her to miss her perches at times, meaning that she would also miss much of her prey. She is fully flighted, and perfect in every other way. Her age is unknown – our guess is that she is around three years old. http://www.eyesinthesky.org/birds/athena Eyes in the Sky (EITS) has been Santa Barbara Audubon’s key wildlife education program since 2000. It features seven birds of prey that serve as education ambassadors. All were rescued and rehabilitated but, due to permanent disabilities, can no longer survive in the wild. They were adopted from wildlife rehabilitation centers that would otherwise, by law, have had to be euthanized. http://www.eyesinthesky.org/about/history
