Easton, Pa. - Phillipsburg, N.J. Free Bridge : The 'Free' bridge connecting Easton, Pa., and Phillipsburg, NJ., crosses the Delaware River. It was designed and built by Timothy Palmer one of the most famous bridge builders of his time. The bridge opened October 14, 1806. The center span was taken out by a house floating down the Deleware in August 1955, due to the aftermath of Hurricane Connie and Hurricane Diane which passed through the Lehigh Valley about a week apart.
