Lions 2007 : This is a hike I did with a group of co-workers and friends on September 8th, 2007. It was a long one, but after climbing ~1300 meters, the view at the base of the West Lion was spectacular. We were also very lucky with the weather because this was probably the last sunny weekend of the summer. Distance: 7.5 km one way, 7 hours, day hike. Trailhead at Lions Bay: 275 m. Base of West Lion: 1575 m, 7.5 km.

7th day - Clinton to Wells Gray : Between the coast ranges and the Canadian Rockies is a region of British Columbia with arguably the greatest range of scenery in Canada. The countryside runs the gamut from semi-arid ranchland to rolling hills speckled with lakes, and from broad expanses of alfalfa to snow-capped peaks. The Cariboo Gold Rush just to the north brought attention to this region and agriculture took hold. Its pioneer heritage is still readily apparent because time seems to slow down here: the rush to "modernize" hasn't infested this region to any great degree. The few main highways are still mostly two-lanes wide, but there are more semi's than motor homes cruising through, and more pickup trucks than either. Before we got going that day we browsed the local historical museum in Clinton and a rambling "antiques" store brimming with stuff priced at a fraction of what we'd pay down in urban America. We made it as far as Wells Gray Provincial Park that evening, and were rewarded with views of spectacular waterfalls with virtually nobody but ourselves to enjoy them.
