Bud Billken Parade (Aug 12) : This Fall I made the trip over to King Drive to check out the Bud Billiken Parade, a long time Chicago tradition. The photo ops were plentiful and the weather was great. I spent a few hours walking around and checking out the performers.

Sadly, towards the end of the parade, the knuckleheads were in full effect and kept the cops busy. We even had an appearance from the eye in the sky.

Remember the Name 3 (Nov 12) : OK, so it took me a while to get these up, but they're finally ready.

Once again, Roldare Nation put on a jam that is quickly becoming the best of the best. The East Coast BBoys came to test the Chicago/Midwest BBoys and put on a great show. Props for bringing in Ben Conde, who is a yo-yo artist like you have never seen. Peep him on YouTube.

Here are my favorite pix of the night. Note that my son, KBevJr grabbed a camera and shot alongside me. For an 11 year old, he crushed. I watermarked his shots separate from mine. You gotta give credit where it's due.

Hellaween 6 (Oct 12) : Hellaween is almost always the best battle of the year. Hexstar brings in great talent from far and wide to compete. Although the Freak Show didn't make the trip this year, plenty of other great artists did.

Here are my favorite photos from the night. I didn't stay for the finals. Too much ignorance to stick around to see what was next. I didn't bother captioning them either. In fact, I'm not even going to lock 'em down. Grab what you want. You can get the link to the full set of unedited pix on the FB page.

Hex said this was going to be the last Hellaween. Too bad. It was a strong six years.

Four years later, I found myself back at the Chicago party waiting for the results of Barack Obama's re-election campaign. We stood around for hours waiting for The Man to appear.

The vibe was very different this time around. In 2008, there was prayerful anticipation that Obama could actually become the first president. Last night, people were expecting a win, but hoping they wouldn't be disappointed by a surprise. As the results came in, the crowd got more and more anxious. Mittens made us wait an extra because he must ahve been hoping for a late night miracle. When Obama came out, it was awesome.

What a night. Only God.

Power in Numbers 3 (Aug 12) : Connect Force offered up the most prize money it has ever offered. Despite a few extended gaps in the battle, a lot of great crews brought their best in pursuit of the loot. In the end, Evol, Mijo, Man o' God and Airsick came out as the victors over a crew equally full of Midwest All-stars... Alternatives also hosted a simultaneous reception so that people could learn more about the great work it is doing in uptown.

Here are my favorite photos from the night. There are events roughly every other month, you shoudl try to make one if you haven't been to one!

Michelle Obama Lunch (Jun 12) : Michelle "Mrs. #44" Obama came to Chicago for a lunch in the Loop. unlike some previous events, this one had over 500 people in attendance - which meant they had a security line from hell. FLOTUS is even taller than people said she was, which was a bit of a surprise. During her talk, she discussed the progress women have made under President Obama. She also made the risks of a Romney presidency very plan for everyone in attendance. Jane Lynch did the introduction.

As one of a handful of men attending a "Women's Lunch", I'd say the crowd was pretty nice overall. Frankly, it reminded me of the time I went to see Oprah.
