Jiankou Great Wall : The photos in this gallery were taken at the roughest and toughest section of the Great Wall of China: Jiankou Great Wall (箭扣长城). The photos are a combination of two walks, one in late afternoon (until sunset) of October 3, 2011, and another in the morning of November 22, 2008. The first photo gives a good idea of relatively where the two climbs were: the recent one (2011) was a section just below the highest tower at the far end, and the second (1988) climb was from where this first photo was taken! Whichever section it is, one has to climb with hands and legs! Officially the PRC Government no longer allows people to climb Jiankou, as it really is not safe to do so! There are people dying from climbing Jiankou every year!
I carried the Canon 5D in the 2011 climb and the Canon G10 in the 2008 one. The 5D with two L glasses was a real burden! Relative to the 5D, the G10 was like carrying nothing!
