Guilin, Sep. 2009 - Guilin : Die erste Etappe unseres Kurztrip zu dem Südchinesichen Touristenzentrum Guilin mit Joanna und Brian brachte und genau dort hin, nach Guilin. Wir trafen unseren local guide am Flughafen, von dort brachte er uns zum Wahrzeichen von Guilin, dem Elefanternrüsselfelsen. Offenbar muß man den gesehen haben, wenn man nach Guilin kommt, und man trifft dort auch die ersten Kormorane, die dort nur auf die Touristen warten, um vorzuführen, wie sie Fische fangen können. Natürlich gegen Bezahlung an die Besitzer der Kormorane. Wir haben dann unseren vorgegebenen Reisepaln etwas verändert und sind zum Yaoshan gefahren. Das ist die höchste Erhebung in der Nähe von Guilin. Man kann mit einer Seilbahn auf diesen Berg fahren und hat eine gute Aussicht auf die Karstlandschaft um Guilin. Der für diese Gegend typische Dunst schränkte allerdings die Fernsicht deutlich ein. Auf dem Weg zurück nach Guilin baten wir den Fahrer an einem Friedhof anzuhalten. Das war eigentlich nur eine lockere Ansammlung von Gräbern, die sich vom Strassenrand in die Hügel hochzog. Letzter Halt vor dem Hotel war dann noch eine Teeplantage, die Karin und ich schon 2004 zusammen mit Grace und Steven besucht hatten, als wir zum ersten Mal nach Guilin kamen. The first stop of our short trip to the Southchinese tourist center Guilin together with Joanna and Brian brought us exactly there, to the city of Guilin. We met our local guide at the airport, from there he took ua to the landmark of Guilin, the Elepahnt Trunk Rock. It seems that you have to see this when you come to Guilin, and here is also where you meet your first cormorants, who are just waiting for the tourists so that they can show them how cormorants catch fish. Of course against payment to the owners of the cormorants. We then made some changes to our schedule and went to Yaoshan. This hill has the highest elevation in the area of Guilin. You can take a cable car up to the top, from where you have a good view of the karst landscape around Guilin. The haze, which is typical for this area, did limit the visibility quite a bit though. On the way back to Guilin we asked the driver to stop at a cemetary. Actually this was an area with a kind of loose collection of graves, which spread from the roadside up into the hills. Last stop before we got to our hotel was a tea plantation, which Karin and I had visited before in 2004, when we first came to Guilin together with Grace and Steven.

Götheborg : Im Januar hat die Götheborg, der Nachbau eines schwedischen Ostindienseglers auf seiner Weltumrundung auch Hong Kong angelaufen. Leider hatten wir keine Gelegenheit, das Schiff zu besichtigen, aber es gibt zumindest ein paar Aufnahmen von aussen. Die letzten beiden, leider sehr dunklen, Aufnahmen zeigen die Götheborg nachts um 22:30 beim Auslaufen vor der Kulisse des weihnachtlich geschmückten Hong Kong. In January of 2007 the Götheborg, a replica of a Swedisch East India Trader, visited Hong Kong during it's trip around the world. We did not manage to do a tour of the ship, but here are at least a few outside shots. The two last, unfortunately quite dark, shots show the Götheborg leaving the harbor in front of the Hong Kong skyline, all decked out in Christmas decorations.
