Southwest Magazine - Adjacent to the Officers Quarters was the gunpowder magazine (a questionable choice of locations, I thought).  On the morning of December 11, 1863 the 150 pounds of powder being stored there suddenly exploded doing considerable damage, killing 11 men, and injuring 41 others. No attempt was ever made to rebuild it as the fort was, at the time, in the midst of a punishing Union bombardment...
