Painted Skies II : I just love the ever-changing colors of the sky...sunrise, sunset, after the storm...and eternal tapestry of God's handiwork.

Cloud Symmetry : Remember when you were in kindergarten and you would make cool looking paintings by smearing paint on one half of a paper and then folding it over on itself. The result would be a symmetrical pattern often looking like a butterfly. Well I did something like that but with a camera. On a recent cloudy day I photographed some interesting clouds then mirror imaged the photo horizontally and vertically to produce the pictures in this album. I was surprised to see the interesting patterns that emerged from so simple a process. I was also amazed at how my brain tries to group symmetrical patterns into recognizable features (e.g. faces, animals, whimsical creatures). It reminds me of the Rorschach inkblot test. I'm interested in hearing about what you see and what you think of the pictures.

Technically I would call these cloud patterns in Quadrilateral Mirror Symmetry (or Quadrilateral Reflection Symmetry) on two axes of symmetry (or lines of symmetry). To make these pictures I took three exposure bracketed shots of a cloud and then processed them into an HDR image with Photomatix. I then mirrored the image vertically and horizontally in a photo editor.

Painted Skies I : The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.
                                                                                                  (Ps. 19:1, NIV)
