Bent's Fort was built in the 1830's by the Bent brothers for the western fur trade. It was an important stop on the Old Spanish Trail to Sante Fe.

Silver brought a short term prosperity to Creede. The silver played out and most of the residents left. Creede is a small town which attracts retirees and people who want a quiet life. These old abandoned mines are all that is left of the mining industry.
