> Pier, foundation construction, concrete construction: Crew guides soldier beam in position to be inserted into fresh reinforced concrete pier. Lumber has been framed to position beam correctly for retaining wall it will support. Worker on right guides Manitowoc crane operator with hand signals. Huron Parkway South of Huron River, Ann Arbor, MI, 2005
 > Pier, foundation construction, concrete construction: Crane brings H-section structural steel soldier beam into position above freshly placed reinforced concrete in pier hole. Soldier beam will be lowered and embedded in the concrete a depth of about 2/3 of its length, up to the wood cross-blocking about 1/3 from its top. Huron Parkway South of Huron River, Ann Arbor, MI, 2005
 > Pier, foundation construction, concrete construction: Crew in mid-rear sets hopper and elephant trunk/ tremie to fill drilled pier hole with fresh concrete. A steel H section soldier beam will be inserted into the fresh concrete. Worker in mid-front is folding another trunk/tremie to be used again. Auger bit to its right drilled the pier now being filled. Concrete readymix truck waits to place another lift of concrete in pier. Huron Parkway South of Huron River, Ann Arbor, MI, 2005.
 > House construction: Construction of concrete foundation for house in place. Wood cribbing and steel wide flange needle beams elevate house that has been moved to this site. Note continuous concrete footing foundation that has been placed at and below ground level to support house when it is lowered. Goose Rocks Beach, Kennebunkport, Maine, 2003.
 > Concrete, aggregate construction: Putzmeister Telebelt TB 130 130 ft horizontal reach 360 CY/hr concrete telescoping boom conveyor. Material feeder conveyor feeds (in this instance) from the other side. CONEXPO, Las Vegas, Nevada, March 15-19, 2005.
 > Masonry construction, safety: Bricklayer holding trowel and level erects end block on wall. The mason stands on 2-2"x10" wood planks supported by side brackets attached to vertical tubes of welded tubular steel walk-thru scaffold. Mason is unsafe, because he is exposed to 20' fall without fall protection.

5-2"x10" planks form material platforms below and above, just behind mason, on which mortar boxs, mortar boards, and stacks of concrete block are placed to provide masons the materials they need to erect wall.

Extending out from the exterior side of concrete block wall are the corrugated steel wire eye segment of a 2-piece adjustable tie system into which the pentile segment embedded in the mortar of the brick veneer exterior wall surface to provide lateral support (support against wind) to the brick. Ann Arbor, 2004.
 > Masonry construction: Welded tubular scaffold, stacked 3 high with cross-bracing, for erection of concrete block exterior wall, to be covered on outside with brick vineer. Left and right sections of scaffold have two open bays without cross-bracing at upper level, to provide access for forklift to place set mortar pan and concrete block material, to be distributed along wall for masons to erect the wall.

Red racks at left and right provide easy transportation and storage for tubular scaffold sections on or off site. Huron Village Shopping Center, Ann Arbor, Michigan, 2004.
 > Concrete, asphalt construction: First day of CONEXPO 2005, Silver Lot exhibits of aggregate, asphalt, and concrete construction equipment. Las Vegas, Nevada, March 15, 2005.
 > Sewer construction, masonry construction: Worker builds drain basin for storm sewer using portland cement mortar and curved concrete blocks. Mortar is mixed in mixer and transported in white plastic bucket (lower left). Worker first uses his hands to take mortar from bucket and place it on concrete block. He then places concrete blocks in mortar. Lastly, he spreads mortar over the inside surface of the drainage basin. A drain basin is where storm water draining from stree (such as through corrugated black plastic flexible tubing) flows into the main storm sewer. Huron Parkway, Ann Arbor, Michigan, 2005.
