Controlled Burn 3-11-10 : Thursday the Liberty Fire department had a controlled burn of a vacant house. It was kind of sad because it used to be someone's home, but it was really interesting. I've never seen a fire that close.

Columbus Zoo 3-12-10 : Went to the zoo with Elizabeth and Alex. Many of the animals won't be out till spring. Several of the ones that were out, were hanging by the doors to the inside housing-I don't know if it was feeding time or because the zoo was closing. We did get to see the 3 new lion cubs (for about 5 min) and the 10 day old chimp.

Photo of the Day : I can't get out to shoot everyday, due to work schedule, daily chores, weather, etc. I have started this gallery to add a photo each day, so that I make a point to take at least one pic a day. It also gives a journal feel to my daily life.
Enjoy, maybe have a laugh at life here in the real world!

Astoria : My recent work shoot brought me to Astoria, OR. For those that don't know, this is where they filmed the movie The Goonies. My hotel was right on the Columbia River, so I was able to spend some time walking up and down the bank looking for birds and such. My main goal was to photograph the Peter Iredale wreckage, and I was ecstatic with the results! My bonus find was the group of sea lions hanging out with the fishing boats. For the most part they were lazing around sleeping, but then some guy went down on the docks and was checking them out with binoculars. I'm assuming he was a researcher and was doing a count, but the sea lions went into an uproar, I think they thought he was going to shoot at them. Unfortunately I found out that a lot of fisherman do so. It was still a great day sitting in the sun and listening to them yell at one another!

Lake Erie Winter 2010 : Several hundred feet off shore in Geneva, OH, exploring Lake Erie winter ice mounds. These formation are essentially frozen waves mixed with rocks, sand, & shells. It gives you a serious appreciation for the Lake and the weather. Overall and amazing site in NE Ohio during the winter. Beautiful.

Charming Laos : Nestled between China, Burma, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam is charming Laos. An agrarian society, Laos has largely escaped Western style development. You won't find a Big Mac or a KFC out here, though, I don't know for how long. Life is refreshingly simple and laid back. The Mekong, one of the greatest rivers of the world, nourishes Laos and forms its backbone. Luang Prabang and Vientiane are its top cities. The town of Luang Prabang is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is known for its Lao-French architecture. Vientiane is the capital. If you visit, please get out of your hotel room and take time to mingle with friendly and welcoming Laotians. Also, don't forget to include a large purse or a backpack in your travel gear. One US dollar at the ATM will give you a boat load of 'Kips', Lao's local currency. Enjoy the trip!
