October 16, 2008 - New York : QE2 arrived in the early morning hours of October 16th at Pier 90 for her final time at the Manhatten cruise terminal she has called on throughout her career. At approximately 5:00pm, she slipped her moorings and gracefully backed out into the Hudson, swung around slowly, and made her way down to the Statue of Liberty to meet Queen Mary 2 to begin their tandem Eastbound transatlantic crossing. This is QE'2 final Atlantic crossing and will end her illustrious career as the longest serving Cunarder and the most famous ship in the world. She was glorious to view in the early morning dawn and at her departure, with all cabins lit. Truly, a magical evening, with Queen Mary 2 following her lead out of the harbor for the last time. Our harbor cruise was eerily quiet as we returned to the pier, with each of us taking in the events and reflecting on the passing of our most favorite ship. As Captain McNaught stated to us back in the pierhead in Newcastle, she in one of a kind and we will never see the likes of her again.
