Luxury Real Estate Photography Portfolio : About Ethan Tweedie

Having spent most of his life in Hawaii, Ethan gained an appreciation for the natural beauty and amazing light of the Hawaiian Islands. It was the beauty of this natural world that inspired him to borrow his father’s 35mm SLR camera.

Ethan’s first formal training in photography was at Parker School here on the Big Island. At Parker, he took photography classes taught by former Honolulu Star-Bulletin Chief Photographer Warren Roll. While getting his degree at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Ethan further honed his photography skills as the school newspaper photographer. Most recently, Ethan attended the Texas School of Photography with intense instruction from some of the best photography minds in the business.

Photography has also been in Ethan’s family. His Great Grandfather A.T. Tweedie and Great Uncle Herbert Tweedie were both professional photographers and his Grandfather Harold Tweedie was an avid semi-professional photographer. Ethan can recall spending time in his grandfather’s darkroom developing black and white photographs and now remarks, “I can still smell the chemicals! Thank goodness for digital.”

Ethan specializes in:

Luxury Real Estate/Architectural Photography
Commercial Photography
Fine Art Landscape Photography
Landscape Portraits

He is a member of the Professional Photographers Association (PPA) and the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP)

Ethan’s clients include Four Seasons, Brookfield Homes Hawaii, Hilton Hotels and W.M. Keck Observatory. Ethan was voted North Hawaii’s Photographer of the Year 2012 and his images have been shown nationwide on MSNBC and The Weather Channel and locally on KHNL, KGMB and KHON.

Ethan has fine art prints in three galleries on the Big Island; Wishard Gallery in Waimea, Harbor Gallery in Kawaihae and Wishard Gallery at the Queen Shops Waikoloa.

The Book of Pelicanos : Why "The Book of Pelicanos"?
Well, this is mostly about Mexican, i.e. Brown Pelicanos, thus I choose it over Pelicans.

< Insert Text >

Brown Pelicanos are

Fascinating Birds.
You know, what I mean, when you ever watched them hunting.
Black Cormorants search the proximity of Brown Pelicans, that is very obvious. It looks, like they admire them.
It also gives me the impression, that Pelicans are wise birds, and Cormorants and other species want to know, what they have to say!
I call them "The Black Guard"
(Gulls and Fregate Birds also search the proximity of Brown Pelicans, just for another reason: They follow them hunting and feed on the "overspill" during the hunt, even disturbing them trying to trigger a loss of Sardines from the Pelican's beak)
During hunting, a pelican winds up to a certain hight, aims at his prey, and turns over one wing in a spiral turn into the water - if you ever watched a German Stuka starting an attack, that comes closest! (I remember having videos of Pelican Hunting from Baja California Sur, yet no chance to post the material yet)
I hope, you can imagine by my inferior pictures!

In this posting, you see shots taken under equal conditions with a D700 and with an A55 (...DSC...) with my legendary 25 year old "Beercan"
Shooting wildlife with an SLT DSLE like the A55 is way more challenging, but the results surpass the NIKON results.
Sorry, my NIKON Afficionados, it is time, that NIKON shines with some innovation, Professional Photographers can't get fooled too long; Michael Reichmann from "Luminous Landscape" detected the advantages of A77 / NEX 7 just now,
 read his very good blogs!

The Latest Thing 2013 : My "Latest Thing" galleries are a nearly daily upload of whatever catches my eye at the moment, so it's a hodgepodge of images. They are then organized -- along with occasionally some images that don't make it into The Latest Thing -- into categories you can find by clicking in the upper left on "synapped."
