January 2007 Dailies :
In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.
(Albert Camus)

When Winter arrived here in the upper hemisphere last month, my already rather inside-out world had become firmly entrenched upside-down. I was forced to admit my Muse had departed, and my so-loved daily photo sessions no longer had either the time or inspiration to continue.

But of course life goes on, and as the dead of winter holds us fast in its grip, those little sparks have begun to appear again like fireflies on a dark moonless night. And so I now return, as best as I am able, to my photography and this little community filled with visions at which one can only marvel and wonder.

(Norman Douglas)

Now begins the countdown to the beginning of Winter itself. As the days grow ever-shorter, darkness overtakes the light and sends the world on a deep and private inward journey of reflection.

(Stanley Horowitz)

Midway to the start of winter here, the world grows noticeably darker and the killing frosts come once again in earnest, both harbingers and symbols of the cyclic inward retreat.
