04/02/13 - First Butterly of the Year!!!

My Blog: http://maryanng.blogspot.com/2013/04/first-swallowtail-of-year.html

The yoshino cherry in my front yard is blooming, and the swallowtails were spotted for the first time this year today. I am so excited! I snapped this quick shot while transplanting some camellias from my yard to Donnie's yard today. 5 quick snaps, and this was the best.

Here are Donnie and Debbie helping with the plan relocation.

'Bill'...01/09/2011...

Meet Bill, aka 'The Klutzy Photographer' (given name 'Billy'). Yes, Bill is hip, listens to music on his iPhone while tilling the garden. The only klutzy moment while tilling occurred when one of the tines broke off (the one on the other side), contemplated showing that, but thought you might prefer a smiling face instead. Got the area all cleaned up and ready for planting later, just a small garden, giving it a go for a 3rd year. This is the side of the house where the camera tumbled off the roof. Bill has a touch of ADD, which probably contributes to his klutziness.
Interesting challenge, and, this was a challenge. As agilitypics said, turning a frog into a prince takes more than Photoshop...thought about just putting a bag on my head, but, then, I probably would have run into the fence...

February 7, 2011 - A super pie for the super bowl. Homemade pizza pie, white pizza with broccoli. This was the only way I would eat broccoli when I was younger. Now the dog gets it. Just kidding. Day 38 #365Project @sharkbayte
April 27, 2011- Rain drops and Irises, okay should have been roses, but this is all I have for today. I briefly went outside to take pictures and then the t-storms returned. I didn't want to risk getting tagged or having my camera drenched. I am sure the camera might withstand the rain but with my luck, I didn't want to experiment. (Day 117:365 @sharkbayte)
Salome. (7.10.2012)

We visited Salome's village of Ust-Sos our 1st day in Khakassia. Due to some poor planning on the part of the organizers, we arrived 2.5 hours ahead of other conference participants. We'd already missed a night's sleep & had driven 3 hours since we hit the ground & standing around in the rain made for a long, tiring day, but it did give me the chance to connect one-on-one with Salome & others. Salome's 80 years old & was wheeled through the mud in her wheelchair to see the day's festivities. She has a Khakass name, but the priest pronounced her Salome when she was baptized & she prefers it. Her husband was a cattle herder & she worked on the village's collective farm during Soviet times. She had 6 children & bemoaned the fact that two died before her. We had some laughs together.

For those who asked, my talk went fine - thanks for asking.

Muddy Creek Falls

We took a drive at the end of the week to Swallow Falls and Blackwater Falls State Parks. After three weeks of sub freezing temperatures it was a winter wonderland.

Thanks for the positive comments on my shot of the bubbles on the lime slice in the tonic water. I cleaned house today and am so pooped that I'm posting early and going to bed. Hope you folks have a great day!
