Sunday, May 15, 2011 "ANTIQUE CHEVY" (pp version) "Keep calm and drive a Chevy!" ~ Unknown Author Lgood is one of the absolute best at capturing automobile shots and their reflections, and I immediately thought of her when I spotted this GM classic. Unfortunately, there wasn't an information card, so I am unsure as to the year of this "oldie but goodie." My hubby's guess is it's a "1930 something Chevy." The pink sign made spectators chuckle. It warned, "UNLESS YOU ARE NUDE.....PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH MY CHEVY! BUCKLES, BELTS, AND BUTTONS SCRATCH." As you can see, I did some pp with this one, but it is uncropped. March 19... Two of my grandchildren having fun in the bath
A hummingbird feeds one of its babies; best viewed in the largest sizes. Thank you to those of you who commented on my photo of the female cardinal today. I don't think too many of you even saw it, but I am especially grateful to those of you who did find it and comment. It was a gorgeous day in the Phoenix area. After doing some laundry this morning, we spent the afternoon visiting a bunch of galleries in Scottsdale and looking at some terrific art. Enjoy your Sunday!
A Flower for You - Apr 03 2009 After 5 days of sunny weather and spring temperatures we have flowers popping up everywhere... I like to take the opportunity to offer you this little blueish flower for your continuous support and comments and I wish you have a great weekend!!
3-06: I was in a precarious position while taking this shot so I didn't get it framed quite the way I wanted. This is the keyhole in the Devils Backbone. You can see where it is in the picture I posted for 3-02. My nerve is not what it used to be.
September 16, 2011 - featured today on Scenic USA http://www.scenicusa.net/091611.html May 8, 2011 - "Sapelo Island Lighthouse" Sapelo Island can only be reached by boat. The island has a very interesting historical background. 5/4/2011 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sapelo_Island_Light "Sapelo Island Lighthouse is a lighthouse in Georgia, United States, near the southern tip of Sapelo Island, Georgia. It is the nation's second-oldest brick lighthouse and the oldest survivor of Winslow Lewis lighthouse projects. Sapelo Island Lighthouse was built in 1820. It was designed and built by Winslow Lewis. It had a fifteen Lewis lamps with 16 in (41 cm) reflectors. In the 1850s, the tower was raised by 10 ft (3.0 m) and a fourth-order Fresnel lens was installed in 1854. During the Civil War, the lens was removed. It was extensively repaired after a 1867 storm and relit in 1868. The tower was damaged by a hurricane in 1898. The lighthouse was replaced in 1905 by the a pyramidal 100 ft (30 m) skeletal tower with a third-oder Fresnel lens. This tower was dismantled and relocated in 1934 to South Fox Island, Michigan. Sapelo Island Lighthouse was inactive from 1905 to 1998, and is now privately maintained and unofficial. The original lighthouse was renovated to its 1890 appearance in 1998 when it was relit."
Came up on this warbler, while we were out hiking!!
October 17, 2008 Another mountain shot from Banff- A little bit of a funny story with this pic...I was traveling very light on this trip...one camera, one lens...no tripod, no shutter release, no beanbag...I really wasn't expecting to take any night shots, but when I saw this, I couldn't resist. This was taken just off a small dead end access road (almost no traffic) with a few parking spots to pull off and admire the scenery. Unfortunately, none offer a view in this direction, so I had to basically just park on the side of the road. And, not having a tripod or beanbag, I had to find something to prop the camera on...I'm not even going to go over the list of items that I tried, but I finally settled on a spare shoe from my suitcase---It actually held the camera pretty well... To make matters worse, I couldn't find anywhere to put the camera that would give me a view close to this... I ended up having to back the car up a little and put the camera (in its shoe) on the roof of the car---again, it actually worked pretty well. It was a tad embarrassing, but only two cars drove by... Unfortunately, the shoe isn't sturdy enough to hold the camera while I press the shutter release, so I have to resort to the 10 second timer. That really drug things out....and it wasn't exactly what you'd call warm. I don't think I'll travel quite as light next time... Not a lot of post on this shot--it's an HDR merge of two shots, trying to bring the moon back in a little, but it didn't really work...cropped a bit off the bottom, and a high pass filter blended to bring out some detail in the mountains. The exposure is pretty close to how it came out of the camera.
Monday, July 21, 2008 (day 52) Went to Eastern State Penitentiary with friends who can't join the SmugMug group on August 13th. Plus, I filled out a survey on the way out and I have 4 free passes for the SmugMug group! It was soooo hot and humid. It was fun to shot there, I think (hope) I learned alot from my mistakes, don't you just love digital!!!

'Alighting'...06/13/2011...
day 108: "the hills have eyes—south jersey". we drove to canton, nj to visit my brother and he took us on a quick tour down an isolated marsh-surrounded road. i loved the area as there are no wires or telephone polls. just a nuke cooling tower in the background... and a strange shack in the middle of the marsh... and NO cell reception... and, uh, it was kinda freaky actually. i hopped out of the van and ran half way up the planked entrance to take this shot ignoring the "no trespassing" sign and the full-on assault of green head flies. in mid-shot my brother beeped the horn and drove away leaving me. funny guy. he drove back. i may be heading back here to sneak closer next time. curiosity has me cranked to check out the shack.
