July 8, 2010 Hey All! After a couple of days on the road for business and no opportunity to shoot photos - I was fortunately able to get out and take some pictures this afternoon late before the sun went down. This is a picture of the beautiful butterfly that I spotted. (Chika or Papa - help me with the name of this beauty?) Post script - Chika says this is a "Queen" butterfly. Chika rocks - she knows her butterflies. Thanks Chika. This beauty was sitting on a wildflower out in a field near my house. It was a difficult shot to get because the wind was blowing so hard that the flower stalk was swaying backwards and forwards pretty violently the whole time I was trying to take the photo. But I got lucky on this one when the wind died for just a second. Otherwise, I have maybe 2 more good pictures of the queen, and the rest are blurry due to the high winds. There's a hair of a crop on this picture, but it's very tiny. I just got lucky on this shot. We've been having high winds & late afternoon/evening thunderstorms here, so this was a lucky catch. With all the storms around my trip to & from Minnneapolis was fraught with delays. I finally got home last night around 1:30 a.m. Makes for a long day - but I'm very happy to have a job. :) Thanks to everyone for your kind comments on my photos - even though I've been off line for several days. Have a great Friday tomorrow, Linda This photograph is protected by the U.S. Copyright Laws and shall not to be downloaded or reproduced by any means without the formal written permission of L Good - noelxgood@sbcglobal.net
20.03.12 - Supermodel I actually went out yesterday looking for butterflies in the sunshine, but ended up taking almost 200 photos of squirrels! The dappled light was beautiful under the trees, but very difficult to deal with because of the huge contrast between light and dark. But by concentrating on the light patches I eventually got into a sort of flow and got the best squirrel shots I've ever taken. It helped that they seemed to be in a posing mood, rather than their usual skittish "now you see me now you don't"! The gallery is here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/Nature/HARTSHOLME-SQUIRRELS/22033254_X6cXPq#!i=1758123431&k=LF8GMwJ I uploaded the gallery very late last night, and by this morning this shot had already been commented on by several people on Dgrin, so I guess it isn't just my favourite one :)
July 13, 2011-These are two of the kittens from a few days ago. Their mother moved all of them to the neighbor's house. Well that night we had a lot of rain, the next morning I found all four of the kittens back in my yard, inside a huge planter that was on it's side and off the ground, they are protected from the rain and the sun. The mother cat just amazes me. Jasper my pup is not happy with the situation. (194:365) Thank you all so much for all the wonderful comments and response to my picture yesterday, it was overwhelming!
June 22, 2011-This is a Paper Wasp, Polistes fuscatus (Fabricius, 1793). I believe I have the correct species as there are many color variations. Found him sitting on the fence post as I was checking the garden out. First time I had one sit long enough for me to take it's picture and without me getting chased off. (What that translates to is: I had the chair in reverse and took off like a scaredy-cat) (Day 173:365 @sharkbayte) thank you for all the wonderful comments on my Flesh Fly shot yesterday, I truly appreciate it. For those that asked the lens I used yesterday as well as today is my favorite, it hardly leaves my camera it's the canon "EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM MACRO"

Monkey with baby (Pic 187 2nd year) D300 17-55 2.8 at ISO400 f9 1/100 There were quite a few monkeys at Dambulla (Sri Lanka) rock temple. This mother was eating from a mango peel. In between she would feed the baby too. It's always a risk to go close to any animal who has a younger one nearby so I had to keep a bit of a distance and grab a few shots in a rush. www.javeri.net
