05/10/11 - Nimue the Barred Owl Another rescue bird from the Wildlife Rescue Center in Sanford that we saw at Noah's Landing in Coats, NC on Sunday. Last year I took pictures of Ophelia the Barred Owl, but this year Nimue was onsite instead. LOVE those eyes! Link to the Noah's Landing gallery: http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Noahs-Landing/Noahs-Landing-050811/16970760_jTvbsT#1283151623_d2tLKHr Thank you so much for your reception to the red-tailed hawk shot from yesterday. It's such a privilege to get to see and take pics of the rescue birds. If you missed the bluebird pics I posted on Facebook yesterday, you might want to check out these shots of a juvenile being fed by his mom and dad: http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Nature/May-2011/16865229_xX2Jk5#1283721848_4V9ZGhF and: http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Nature/May-2011/16865229_xX2Jk5#1283725809_gwTTKD7 HAGD, Maryann

Also, Thanks for your comments on my smoke tree photo ADDED NOTE on 4/29: This (#10 spot) photo marks the end of my 6th month in the Daily Community. I know there are gaps and many of my pictures are off as I have a long way to go. I am grateful to you all for inspiring me to take better pictures. This has been an unforgettable experience. Now it's time to take a break and take care of my family.
3rd year Pic 325 - Sep 07 2011 Frisky Frisky is the new entrant at my cousin's house in Ahmedabad. This was shot in July when he was about 4 months old. A thoroughly lovable chap, he lives up to his name! Can't wait to make another trip to meet him!! Abad trip July 2011
for July 23 post. On the hottest day of the year , I get the idea that a walk along the trail near me will be cooler due to the tree canopy. Well it wasn't ,and the bugs were "not a pretty sight". I used SP night on my camera for this one and was hanging over a log and drenched in sweat. It could be sharper but I like the underside effect.and the effort it took merited a post. Where have all the crickets gone?
"76 takes and Phhewwww....." I have been planning to take a shot of spalsh for a while and today was the day. Though I didn't achieve the kind of shot I wanted to take , I felt this shot was decent enough . I took this shot near my kitchen window for good lighting and not sure if it's a good idea for such shots.I felt I need to practice these water shots to get good at accuracy. I will continue this experiment sometime in future. For now .oohoo, this is it :-) Have a happy sunday everyone ! White on White - Jan 11 2010 A white flower dissolves in to the white background.
4/4/11 - Stare way to....! - Taken whilst out for an evening stroll around Greetwell Hollow with my niece and Pip. This is a 4 shot stitch with a touch of cloning around the edges/corners and just a tweak to levels. Probably the most dramatic sunset I've ever caught. view as large as your screen lets you! A shot with the quarry area taken minutes before this can be seen here http://nixpixme.smugmug.com/Landscapes/Landscapes-locations-and-light/13299714_nVHpT/#1239240939_yxmJ2 My first try at stitching these shot can be seen http://nixpixme.smugmug.com/Landscapes/Landscapes-locations-and-light/13299714_nVHpT/#1240017688_Y8qWq
Best friends Marlice and her cheetah at sunset, Na'ankuse, Namibia. Cheetah are the most 'tameable' of the big cats when raised from a very young age, as this one was, but they are still wild animals. Marlice and her colleagues at the Na'ankuse Foundation have the skills and the proper facilities to take good care of the cheetahs and to rehabilitate them for release into the wild. (They have the loudest, most fantastic purr I have ever heard!!)
May 10, 2011-Coming out of it's shell. I never actually seen this stage and thought it was cool to see it as it was actually happening. (Day 130:365 @sharkbayte)
January 17 In memory of "Vaks" who passed quietly away yesterday. He was for us a good, loyal friend for 12 years, but as a Fox Terrier also setting his own priorities. He was our ship dog for 6 years when we were yachting in the summertime. When we moved to Fanoe his favorite occupation was hunting rabbits. Until two year ago he caught at least one a day, and was so proud, when he returned home with his catch. This picture was taken in 2002 with my analog Leica M6 camera and later digitalized. Thank you for your comforting comments yesterday .
May 8, 2009 - "A Distant Scene" - My wife captured these wonderfully textured arches funneling to a mini scene in the distance. For more of her photos from our Austin trip last week go to this gallery http://dakotacowboy.smugmug.com/gallery/8113712_sBWkb/1/528954472_gwiNX Arches photographed at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center - http://www.wildflower.org/
"Photo 365" Well,I am little nervous as this is my first SP in dailies and equally excited as I completed one year with my Daily Showcase. I also couldn't get the results as I wanted with my SP due to bad lighting, focus and other issues. I gave a thought for a while before posting but going ahead and finally posting one of the many shots I tried. A BIG thank you to everyone personally in the daily community who encouraged me with many wonderful comments and valuable suggestions all year round. I wasn't keen on continuing after 2-3 months of posting the dailies due to lack of time , but I kept going just because of everyone's support in the daily community. I would be stepping into my 2nd year of dailies with a new gallery and I hope I will take wonderful shots and equally enjoy more beautiful pictures in the daily community posted by everyone of you in days to come. Thank you everyone ! When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence. ~Ansel Adams
Mammatus clouds at sunset, just after the storm, which had included some hail. Mammatus clouds seem to be relatively rare and usually occur in association with fairly severe storms. I've only seen them a few times and this is the first opportunity I've had to capture them in a photo. It was nice that they occurred as the sun was setting. I do appreciate all the comments on my shot of the clematis bud. You folks are great!
