Puss 'n' Boots Spotted this little family while out exploring for photo ops yesterday. Day 53: April 11, 2010
Colourful Trip We had a brilliant stay in West Cork. This is Eyeries. Due to cars on the sunny side of the street I had to opt for this side but it still captures the bold colours of the entire village. This was taken around 18.15 (6.15pm) Eyeries, renowned for its multi-coloured houses and its panoramic views over the Atlantic has two pubs, two shops, one of these with petrol and diesel pumps, a cafe/restaurant and a post office/shop. In every year since 2003 it has won either a gold or silver medal in the small village category of the Ireland Tidy Towns competition. http://www.eyeries.com/index.html Thank you all for the lovely birthday and anniversary wishes. We appreciate every one of them. July 25, 2011

Sunday, December 30, 2012 "LIGHTS AND REFLECTIONS" "How much you climb up the mountain is just as important as how you get down the mountain. And so it is with life, which, for many of us becomes one big gigantic test followed by one big gigantic lesson. In the end, it all comes down to one word.....grace. It's how you accept winning and losing, good luck and bad luck, the darkness and the light." ~ Philosophy SOOC, other than the frames, which were created with Picnik.......unfortunately, the picnik is over. As announced earlier, Picnik closed on April 19, 2012. 3rd year Pic 212 - Apr 23 2011 Bubbles 2 Thank you for your comments on my yesterday's picture. This is the same man but taken head-on with the light on his right. The background is one of the posters hung up on the wall behind him and thought it added a bit of a drama to the shot! ADDED: The man was selling the kit for making bubbles, the liquid in a bottle and a simple contraption to blow the bubbles. This is best seen in large size. The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is an annual festival, usually around nine days long, held in late January or early February, in the Kala Ghoda area of South Mumbai, India. The Festival is organised by the Kala Ghoda Association (a non-profit organisation that states its objectives as "physically upgrading the Kala Ghoda sub-precinct and making it the Art District of Mumbai") and curated by teams handling each of the sub-festivals. The sub-festivals feature the visual arts, dance, music, theatre, cinema, literature, lectures, seminars and workshops, heritage walks, special events for children, and a vibrant street festival. Entry to all events is free to all (only restricted by the size of the venues) and costs are met through corporate sponsorship. http://www.kalaghodaassociation.com/OpinionPollAns.aspx http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kala_Ghoda_Arts_Festiva

01/28/12 - Rainbows My Blog: http://maryanng.blogspot.com/2012/01/rainbows.html Today's daily is both inspired, pretty, and scientific. What you're looking at is a macro of a CD (really a DVD) that was put in the microwave for 7 seconds. A special thanks to Vandana and Dianne Ward for their inspiration. I saw their beautiful photos yesterday and was motivated to give it a try myself. If you're wondering more about why CDs reflect rainbows, here's a geeky explanation that I understood. I took about 250 pics, and the hardest part was holding everything still so as to not blur the images and actually taking images with the rainbow color that did not also contain a SP. Hi! SmugMug Link This is the CD after 7 seconds in the microwave on high (my microwave is pretty powerful).  Don't let the chemicals quickly igniting and burning out around 5 seconds cause you to jump too bad!  It's just a small flash.  Turning the fan hood on the stove on is a good idea too as there is a bit of a chemical smell for a few minutes. SmugMug Link A couple other pics that I liked: SmugMug Link SmugMug Link SmugMug Link If you want to give this a try, experiment a lot with the angle you hold the CD relative to the lens.  You can make it look like lightning or veins in the body or cracks in ice or wherever your imagination takes you. Most of all if you try it, have fun!  Even Donnie was getting in on the act! SmugMug Link My shots were mostly taken under a compact fluorescent light.  It might be worthwhile to go out in the sun or try halogen or some other light source.  Water or maybe oil on top might produce nice results too! The comments you guys left on my B&W tree yesterday made my day. Thanks! HAGD, Maryann
Thar's frost on the pumpkin and on the window - We rarely have frost on any of our windows, so I was quite excited to see it on the storm door one morning not long ago. I rushed to get my camera and captured a few shots. You really need to view this in the largest sizes to see the wonderful patterns. Thanks for the comments on my power stack pic. Hope your holiday weekend is going well. Glad to hear that many of you are no more ready for Christmas than I am. We slackers like to hear that we are not the only ones!

I captured this sunset photo during a mild low tide. There was heavy surf, very large waves, and high wind that day, so there was a lot of mist in the air. This mist softened the lines of the lighthouse and hostel buildings in the background lending a bit of a dreamy quality to the composition. (Note: the surf was so unusually high, that the Maverick's surf contest was held that morning (it's a world famous contest that is held only one day a year, on the day when the waves are expected to be the highest, and it attracts the world's best big-wave surfers). Sunday, July 21, 2013 "B" is for BATHTUBS "Every tub has to sit on its own bottom." ~ Title of a book written by Zora Neal Hurston Photo submission for Donna McCommon's "Alphabet Challenge" For some reason, when I saw this scene, I was reminded of the scene in "The Help" movie where the commodes (toilets), as opposed to bathtubs, were in the front yard of Hilly Hollbrook's house:). Have a wonderfully blessed day, my friends! What IS that? This little girl was the flower girl at a recent wedding shoot and I noticed that she was looking at the light coming in from a stained glass window onto her hand. She was absolutely fascinated! Thanks so much for the many nice comments on my latest balloon festival picture. These festivals do provide so many great photo ops. It really made my day to see so many of you liking my image. I love to imagine all of us SmugMuggers, going about our days with our cameras at hand, always on the lookout for a great shot. I see us at work with our cameras, sitting in the car with them on our laps, with us in restaurants and bars, and everywhere we go. We can be found lying on the ground, perched on fences, teetering on ladders, wading in streams. We are fearless; we are strong; we are indomitable; we are smugmuggers! Enough, already! Have a great day!
