I captured this sunset photo during a mild low tide. There was heavy surf, very large waves, and high wind that day, so there was a lot of mist in the air. This mist softened the lines of the lighthouse and hostel buildings in the background lending a bit of a dreamy quality to the composition. (Note: the surf was so unusually high, that the Maverick's surf contest was held that morning (it's a world famous contest that is held only one day a year, on the day when the waves are expected to be the highest, and it attracts the world's best big-wave surfers). A flower for Amy (Wilburn) Seeing Amy's stunning image of Jesse I tried the technique on a sun flower pic. Thanks Amy! Would love to hear your comments and ideas on how to improve on it. Amy's pic: http://amywilburn.smugmug.com/popular/1/291882496_FgD7Y/Medium

February 2, 2011-Ninja Cat. Allison has started sitting on this tree limb (when she isn't sleeping) to get a better vantage point for catching birds. Day 33 @sharkbayte Thanks for all the comments on my picture and well wishes at the doctors. I'll be back to the doctors next week again for more tests. Oh the fun never ends! LOL!
06/28/11 - Enter If You Dare Just a house long since abandoned and for sale near Albemarle, NC on Hwy. 52. I've also been studying this spot for the past several trips to/from dad's house trying to decide if I should stop and take pics or not. Sunday was the day. I was attracted to the peeling paint and the view through a view of the glass on this porch area. A wider view processed similarly showing the whole porch area: http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Inspirations/Inspirations/10386893_s5msk#1358623461_tPQJfk6 No change with my dad... Thanks for all your comments on my glowing tree from yesterday. HAGD, Maryann
Warm Grass, Lake Sam Rayburn TX I love the way that a sunset can light up a foreground! This glowing grass caught my eye as I was looking for a new foreground composition that included the reflection pool. We hope to get back to the lake this weekend and maybe even today! This is a three exposure HDR. I haven’t made many HDR photos lately, but still find it to be a handy technique when I have to shoot into the sun without any filters. The only filter used here is the circular polarizer. What IS that? This little girl was the flower girl at a recent wedding shoot and I noticed that she was looking at the light coming in from a stained glass window onto her hand. She was absolutely fascinated! Thanks so much for the many nice comments on my latest balloon festival picture. These festivals do provide so many great photo ops. It really made my day to see so many of you liking my image. I love to imagine all of us SmugMuggers, going about our days with our cameras at hand, always on the lookout for a great shot. I see us at work with our cameras, sitting in the car with them on our laps, with us in restaurants and bars, and everywhere we go. We can be found lying on the ground, perched on fences, teetering on ladders, wading in streams. We are fearless; we are strong; we are indomitable; we are smugmuggers! Enough, already! Have a great day!

Hokami, border collie - Nov 2 2008 Beautiful sunny day, perfect for a walk in the woods. I have tried to avoid placing dog pictures here... but i like this picture too much (and I want to please my darling wife). This is Hokami one of our border collies and a little bit the favorite of my wife :-)
Hello Everybody, you all have been very kind to me recently with your comments and I can't thank you enough. I've spent the last couple of days in NY State and took this image in the Allegheny State Park, Red house lake. Allegany State Park is a state park in western New York State, located in Cattaraugus County just north of Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania. The park is divided into two sections: The Red House Area and the Quaker Run Area. It lies within the Allegheny Highlands forests ecoregion.
Sunset at Ogy - Jan 09 2009 Again a day of fog and frost... add a lovely sun and a clear blue sky and you have a wonderful opportunity to take gorgeous shots. So after work I shot 250 pictures and I must say, it was real hard to choose the DP! Went finally for the sunset because of the cool reflection on the ice. Have a nice weekend!!
Frozen by Padonna - Jan 10 2009 While shooting all kinds of frozen things (there's not much more to shoot now) this back lit spider web was screaming for attention. Natures simplicity can be so beautiful...
Colorful Big Red, Columbia MO Got out to take some new photos today and this was the best one. Big Red loves our photo walks since he gets to do his own thing off the leash. But at some point I always sit down and wait for him to come around and pose for me. John A. Stewart park is still full of color, even if most of it is on the ground. Update: This photo was taken with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4. It's the first lens I bought for my camera and I really like it , I use it a lot, and it's not too expensive.
