"Photo 365" Well,I am little nervous as this is my first SP in dailies and equally excited as I completed one year with my Daily Showcase. I also couldn't get the results as I wanted with my SP due to bad lighting, focus and other issues. I gave a thought for a while before posting but going ahead and finally posting one of the many shots I tried. A BIG thank you to everyone personally in the daily community who encouraged me with many wonderful comments and valuable suggestions all year round. I wasn't keen on continuing after 2-3 months of posting the dailies due to lack of time , but I kept going just because of everyone's support in the daily community. I would be stepping into my 2nd year of dailies with a new gallery and I hope I will take wonderful shots and equally enjoy more beautiful pictures in the daily community posted by everyone of you in days to come. Thank you everyone ! When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence. ~Ansel Adams
Mammatus clouds at sunset, just after the storm, which had included some hail. Mammatus clouds seem to be relatively rare and usually occur in association with fairly severe storms. I've only seen them a few times and this is the first opportunity I've had to capture them in a photo. It was nice that they occurred as the sun was setting. I do appreciate all the comments on my shot of the clematis bud. You folks are great!
1/18/13 - Great horned owl Thanks so much for your comments on my shot of the coyote. What an amazing variety of shots today on smugmug! I really enjoyed browsing through them. You guys sure know how to keep me inspired!

3rd year Pic 212 - Apr 23 2011 Bubbles 2 Thank you for your comments on my yesterday's picture. This is the same man but taken head-on with the light on his right. The background is one of the posters hung up on the wall behind him and thought it added a bit of a drama to the shot! ADDED: The man was selling the kit for making bubbles, the liquid in a bottle and a simple contraption to blow the bubbles. This is best seen in large size. The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is an annual festival, usually around nine days long, held in late January or early February, in the Kala Ghoda area of South Mumbai, India. The Festival is organised by the Kala Ghoda Association (a non-profit organisation that states its objectives as "physically upgrading the Kala Ghoda sub-precinct and making it the Art District of Mumbai") and curated by teams handling each of the sub-festivals. The sub-festivals feature the visual arts, dance, music, theatre, cinema, literature, lectures, seminars and workshops, heritage walks, special events for children, and a vibrant street festival. Entry to all events is free to all (only restricted by the size of the venues) and costs are met through corporate sponsorship. http://www.kalaghodaassociation.com/OpinionPollAns.aspx http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kala_Ghoda_Arts_Festiva
ART - Sunflower Melt Down... Starting to Get Warm...         Link to Photo Without Frame         Thank You for Making this Daily Photo the #1 Pick on 05/24/2013
Thar's frost on the pumpkin and on the window - We rarely have frost on any of our windows, so I was quite excited to see it on the storm door one morning not long ago. I rushed to get my camera and captured a few shots. You really need to view this in the largest sizes to see the wonderful patterns. Thanks for the comments on my power stack pic. Hope your holiday weekend is going well. Glad to hear that many of you are no more ready for Christmas than I am. We slackers like to hear that we are not the only ones!

This image is registered with the US Copyright Office. www.colleenmgriffith.com www.facebook.com/colleen.griffith This northern pacific coast lighthouse is located just south of Half Moon Bay, a cute little coastal town easily accessible from San Francisco, California. I captured this sunset photo during a mild low tide. There was heavy surf, very large waves, and high wind that day, so there was a lot of mist in the air. This mist softened the lines of the lighthouse and hostel buildings in the background lending a bit of a dreamy quality to the composition. (Note: the surf was so unusually high, that the Maverick's surf contest was held that morning (it's a world famous contest that is held only one day a year, on the day when the waves are expected to be the highest, and it attracts the world's best big-wave surfers). 01/28/12 - Rainbows My Blog: http://maryanng.blogspot.com/2012/01/rainbows.html Today's daily is both inspired, pretty, and scientific. What you're looking at is a macro of a CD (really a DVD) that was put in the microwave for 7 seconds. A special thanks to Vandana and Dianne Ward for their inspiration. I saw their beautiful photos yesterday and was motivated to give it a try myself. If you're wondering more about why CDs reflect rainbows, here's a geeky explanation that I understood. I took about 250 pics, and the hardest part was holding everything still so as to not blur the images and actually taking images with the rainbow color that did not also contain a SP. Hi! SmugMug Link This is the CD after 7 seconds in the microwave on high (my microwave is pretty powerful).  Don't let the chemicals quickly igniting and burning out around 5 seconds cause you to jump too bad!  It's just a small flash.  Turning the fan hood on the stove on is a good idea too as there is a bit of a chemical smell for a few minutes. SmugMug Link A couple other pics that I liked: SmugMug Link SmugMug Link SmugMug Link If you want to give this a try, experiment a lot with the angle you hold the CD relative to the lens.  You can make it look like lightning or veins in the body or cracks in ice or wherever your imagination takes you. Most of all if you try it, have fun!  Even Donnie was getting in on the act! SmugMug Link My shots were mostly taken under a compact fluorescent light.  It might be worthwhile to go out in the sun or try halogen or some other light source.  Water or maybe oil on top might produce nice results too! The comments you guys left on my B&W tree yesterday made my day. Thanks! HAGD, Maryann
This was the cutest little puppy! When the guys were all out skeet shooting, my nephews friend came out and he had this cute little puppy with him. It was in the back of his truck watching everybody and wanting out very bad. All the gunshots didn't bother him at all. Thanks for all the comments and info on my post yesterday!
A flower for Amy (Wilburn) Seeing Amy's stunning image of Jesse I tried the technique on a sun flower pic. Thanks Amy! Would love to hear your comments and ideas on how to improve on it. Amy's pic: http://amywilburn.smugmug.com/popular/1/291882496_FgD7Y/Medium

February 2, 2011-Ninja Cat. Allison has started sitting on this tree limb (when she isn't sleeping) to get a better vantage point for catching birds. Day 33 @sharkbayte Thanks for all the comments on my picture and well wishes at the doctors. I'll be back to the doctors next week again for more tests. Oh the fun never ends! LOL!
