Sunday, June 17, 2012 "NECKTIES" "Neckties satisfy modern man's desire to dress in art." ~ Harry Anderson "Fathers are the biggest source of strength for a child. The innocent eyes of a child perceive father as the all-powerful, most knowledge, truly affectionate and the most important person in the family. For daughters, fathers are the first men they adore and fall in love with. While for sons, their fathers are the strongest person they know and someone they aspire to emulate. Even for the grownups, fathers are someone whom they look up to for the most experienced and honest advice that is always in the best of our interest. For this great figure in our life that we know as father - it becomes our utmost duty to pay our humblest tribute on the occasion of Father's Day." ~ Reprinted text from here: http://www.fathersdaycelebration.com/tribute-to-father.html SPEAKING OF SPORTS: Miami Heat will host Oklahoma City Thunder in game 3 of the NBA Finals tonight. The series is now 1 - 1. Go "young guns" of OKC! Happy Father's Day to biological and surrogate (one who takes the place of another) fathers, father-figures, Godfathers, and mentors - both natural and spiritual. I'm appreciative of your comments on yesterday's "Cherry Blossoms" (remix) photo. Be blessed and share the rest! ***#1 photo of the day and all time*** (photo taken 4/4/2012)
3rd year Pic 042 - Sep 02 2010 Splash! Dhobi Ghat B&W is here but I feel the splash of colour looks better: http://hershy.smugmug.com/Photography/Mumbai-my-city/Dhobi-ghat-cuffe-Parade/10119943_4urML#986119413_no6kb-A-LB THANK YOU all for your comments on yesterday's pic of the man's portrait. I am off this evening for the weekend, going to Udaipur in Rajashtan and may not be able to keep up with postings or comments till Tuesday. Have a nice weekend!
Cat looking out the window; best viewed in the largest sizes. Taken from the other side of the cat from the shot of two days ago. I thought it was more effective in b/w. Thanks for your comments on the kite shot! I was blown away by the marvelous shots you folks put up today!
Cannon Beach Sunset Typical of December, cold but not the bitter windy cold we get in January. Taken from Ecola State Park looking back at Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock. ~Deb 12/24/09
Pour ma Caroline - Feb 14 2009 This is my last post for Valentine... for my darling wife whom I love with all my heart! Thanks for the comments on my Valentine pics... will need to turn the knob in my head to find a normal PD again ;-)
19.11.11 - Sparkles This just shows how close beauty is, if only we take the time to see it. I was looking out of the kitchen window on Saturday morning and the back lawn seemed to be sparkling in the morning sunshine. So I went out to have a closer look and indeed it was :)
Posted 1/20/11 for my daily of 1/21/11 Hey there all my SmugMugger friends! I have to leave tomorrow morning (Friday - 1/21) on a flight to Phoenix, AZ at 6:30 AM CST - and I won't be back in Dallas until midnight Friday - or is that Saturday morning? Those one day trips are killers. Because of my trip. I am going to post my second daily photo today (forgive me) so I won't loose a day of posting to the Daily Photo Community because of my crazy travel schedule. So please count this as my Daily for Friday, January 21st. Even though I get back to Love Field (home base = Dallas) at midnight tomorrow, I still have to get to my car in the remote parking lot, and drive home. The drive home is an hour, and so I'm at my house 1:15 a.m. I'll not want to post a Daily or comment at that time in the morning, so I'm posting tonight. Even though I'll miss commenting on Friday (tomorrow). I'll catch up on my commets on your fab photos Saturday afternoon. This shot is from the archives, and is a 1939 Chevrolet that was gorgeous - I liked the smattering of rain drops on the car. The pearl white color was perfect, and the interior was magnificent - I liked it in B&W treatment. Thanks for your comments on my recent photos. Best regards, Linda
April 22, 2012 My Earth Day contribution - thanks L Perry!!!! Wildflowers are the salt of the earth and sustain the beauty there over. What kind of Texan would I be if I didn't post a photo or two of our beloved Bluebonnets? So, here is a wonderful field of bluebonnets near my house. The bluebonnets are the state flower of Texas. The orange flowers that are sprinkled throughout the field are Indian Paint Brush wildflowers, and they are the state flower of Oklahoma, the state where I was born. From www.statesymbolsusa.org: "The bluebonnet was designated the official state flower of Texas in 1901. Also called buffalo clover, wolf flower, and el conejo (spanish for "the rabbit"), bluebonnets are to Texas what the shamrock is to Ireland." Further, this website states: " The bluebonnet is not only the state flower - Texas has also designated an official bluebonnet city (Ennis, Texas), festival (Chappell Hill Bluebonnet Festival), and trail (also in Ennis). The bluebonnet flower is named for the color and sunbonnet-shaped petals." "The home of the bluebonnet - the North American prairie - is one of the most endangered ecosystems on earth. The grasslands of North America began to form about 20 million years ago, but in some areas up to 99 percent of the prairie has been destroyed (in just the last 125-150 years). Wildflowers are the jewels of public lands - tread lightly, take only photos and memories - do not pick flowers or dig up plants." Ennis, Texas is very near my home in Waxahachie, Texas. However, the beloved bluebonnets are found all over the state of Texas. I would like to salute the absolutely gorgeous bluebonnet photos that have been posted by Dakotacowboy, Firefly, Papamugger, Webstersway and others. Their shots were incredible and shared with our Daily Community in the height of the bluebonnet season, which is fairly short. You guys did a magnificent job showcasing our state flower! Thank you. Have a "wildflower" sort of day today my friends, and stop to absorb the beauty around us, for it is a gift each day. Linda
This is the DCU Info Center's Rubber Chicken. He first lived with the incomparable Chip Colwell, who passed him along to Rich "Money" Meservey upon his departure. When Rich left the department, he left the chicken with me. Now, I'll need to find a new, worthy home for this guy before I leave DCU next Friday. 6/3/10
Chipmunks are so cute!!
Just Before Sundown, Rocheport MO Nini and I took the dogs to our new sunset location the night before last and were lucky to see a beautiful Missouri River sunset. This little sandbar is just below the Katy Trail outside of Rocheport Missouri. The Katy Trail is a 240 mile state park that runs along the old M.K.T. railroad line (Missouri-Kansas-Texas). To access the sandbar you have to climb down a steep dirt cliff, but there are plenty of tree roots to help lower yourself down. The dogs were down in a skip and a jump. One passer by said, "How in the heck do I get down there? That's the best beach in Missouri!" We had a fun time watching the sunset on the best beach in MO. This is a six-exposure HDR. Despite an awesome view of the sunset, I struggled for a long while to find a composition I liked. But we arrived 45 minutes before sunset and I had plenty of time to try out different compositions and ultimately settle in on a few that I liked. Thanks for all of the comments on my Dad and I's photos yesterday. We have a great time when we get together and are always giving each other a hard time. I always razz him about his haircut and he always mocks my clothing and lack of shave, but I know he really envies my good looks and sense of fashion! UPDATE: CreativeLIVE is LIVE today and all weekend, and it's free. The workshop is "Bellies and Babies with Sandy Puc." You can go to www.creativelive.com but I recommend the low resolution link here: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/creativelive-lowres I like to keep these on in the background and pick up as much as I can. They replay the day's workshop each night too. Even though this one is about baby photography, and I'm not especially interested in that (yet), I always learn something from these shows, especially about the business of photography because I know so little about it! Posting my Christmas greetings a few days early, since so many of you are traveling for the holidays...you've see the shot before without the text. Thanks for the comments on my reflections shot. You guys are the best!
3rd year Pic 316 - Aug 29 2011 Paradise Fly catcher Ranthambhore National Park Best seen in bigger size More pictures at http://hershy.smugmug.com/Travel/Ranthambhore/RT-June-2011/17444320_Qps9C3 The paradise-flycatchers, Terpsiphone, are a genus of monarch flycatchers. The genus ranges across Africa and Asia, as well as a number of islands. A few species are migratory, but the majority are resident. The most telling characteristic of the genus is the long tail streamers of the males of many species. In addition to the long tails the males and females are sexually dimorphic and have rufous, black and white plumage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradise_flycatcher
