DailyPhotos > popular all-time > The sun is reflected in water droplets on fir tree needles; please look at this in the large size and you'll see the starbursts in all the water drops. I took this shot a couple of months ago when we had our first bout of hoarfrost. I dashed out the take photos, but the sun was melting the frost faster than I could capture it. I ended up spending about two hours taking photos of water drops all over the garden and yard. I remember being so excited that I forgot to get breakfast for my poor long-suffering hubby. You all posted a lot of great images today. I really enjoyed looking through them all. It is amazing how much talent is here on smugmug. I am constantly being inspired to try new things by all the creativity I see here. So, thanks, everyone for being SUCH an inspiration! Hope your day is lovely. I know Dave is getting buried in snow again in Seattle. I think we're all ready for winter to end.

DailyPhotos > popular all-time > 1-18-09 sunday in memory of my best friend and siser, linda hendry this is one of my favorites of linda's photos. she could capture the personailty of a bug. she was a blended artist and scientist. she wanted to know the name, the essence of things. she was an open receptor and clear reflector of the world. while she reached the heights of her professional world- information technology director, she had dreams of operating a landscaping business, used bookstore. she was an avid reader. she was incredibly generous- she gave me my first digital camera (20D) and then after I had taken a year of weekly photography classes, she gave me my camera now (40D) out of the blue and completely unexpected. DailyPhotos > popular all-time > March 8, 2009 What a day we had yesterday weather wise. The temperature hovered around 60 degrees, it was so nice. All the snow that fell on Monday is quickly disappearing. I have been eager to give my new 70-300 lens a test run so I headed off to the zoo. I think even the animals were enjoying the wonderful spring day, they seemed to be more active than usual. I was lucky to catch this cheetah as she was getting ready to settle down for a nap. She went through her cleaning routine then struck this pose, then curled up and went to sleep. I was surprised at how this well this came out considering it was shot through a filthy glass window.
DailyPhotos > popular all-time > "Those Eyes" details best seen @ size X3 While walking through my kids TV room last night I noticed a great beam of natural sunlight coming through the front window as the sun was going down and then saw my daughter Alexa's eyes catching the light as well. So I made her get off the couch (I know I'm a terrible Dad LOL) and had her stare out of the window. I should have went to get my 50mm Nikkor or 90mm Tamron for this Portrait to get a sharper image but I was lazy and stuck with the 18-200 VR that was on the body but I think it did a fine job, impressed me really. When seen as large as possible you can see each individual eye lash reflected on her retina, pretty cool! I then hit this with my normal Portraiture work flow & slight glamour treatment, removed a bunch of small hairs in between the nose, shaped her brows and did some very minor burning to bring out her cheek bone a little bit and that's it. The shadow is all natural just using proper exposure settings and shooting tight to prevent any of the background in the room from showing. Alexa's eyes are usually a nice blue but she was wearing a purple shirt which turns them a wild greenish aqua blue seen here. She's my favorite model and loves to have her photo taken so we both make out on the deal whenever I want to do a portrait to keep my skills sharp ;) I like this one so much I'll be ordering it in a large format lustre print or possibly a canvas to hang on my office wall! ~I just love my kids ~ Hope you all like it, Have a Great Day everyone ! DailyPhotos > popular all-time > 1-27-09: Let it Snow - for lack of something else to shoot tonight...I opted for the snow falling outside my sliding glass window. I laid a blue photo filter over the entire image in PS and it is what it is. Nothing stellar...but one a day is one a day :-)
