DailyPhotos > popular all-time > 4.8.08 - Ripples

I had intended to do another SP today, I thought it was about time, otherwise I'd start getting bullied again (you know who you are MB!). But it has been a very hectic day, I'll try to summarise it without boring anyone :)

I had barely finished my breakfast when I got a phone call, total change of plans for today. Apart from a few minutes over a late lunch, when I actually managed to get home, I've been on the move all day. I finally got back at 9pm, with a stack of emails to answer and more phone messages. Most of these mean more changes of plan for tomorrow, and more work, but one was good news, really good news. I have won my first photographic competition, hooray, and this is the image that won. I took it nearly a year ago, as one of a series, and it has remained one of my favourites. I would do certain things differently if I got the chance, but throwing a pebble into a lake to generate your own ripples is a neat trick, if you get your aim and the timing right :)

Unfortunately I have a pile of paperwork to do before the morning, so I can't promise that I'll be able to catch up with the Dailies, but I'll try later. But for now I'm going to have a beer, if I can drink it with this big daft grin on my face :))

DailyPhotos > popular all-time > 1-18-09 sunday
in memory of my best friend and siser, linda hendry

this is one of my favorites of linda's photos. she could capture the personailty of a bug. she was a blended artist and scientist. she wanted to know the name, the essence of things. she was an open receptor and clear reflector of the world. while she reached the heights of her professional world- information technology director, she had dreams of operating a landscaping business, used bookstore. she was an avid reader. she was incredibly generous- she gave me my first digital camera (20D) and then after I had taken a year of weekly photography classes, she gave me my camera now (40D) out of the blue and completely unexpected. I cannot say how much I deeply miss her.
and now, we know her thru her lens.

What a day we had yesterday weather wise. The temperature hovered around 60 degrees, it was so nice. All the snow that fell on Monday is quickly disappearing. I have been eager to give my new 70-300 lens a test run so I headed off to the zoo. I think even the animals were enjoying the wonderful spring day, they seemed to be more active than usual. I was lucky to catch this cheetah as she was getting ready to settle down for a nap. She went through her cleaning routine then struck this pose, then curled up and went to sleep. I was surprised at how this well this came out considering it was shot through a filthy glass window.

I couldn't decide on which version of this image I wanted to put up today so instead of going nuts I decided to place them BOTH in my daily gallery since I was a day behind on my listings anyway. This is the COLOR version that has been processed using NIK COLOR EFEX PRO 3 and then adding some minor Contrast & sharpening. The B&W version of can be seen as the next image in this gallery or if you can here by way of the Daily main page you can CLICKING HERE

Let me know which one YOU like the best !

Enjoy Folks !

Lonely - but hopeful?

edited to add - thank you to everyone who commented. I had held on to this photo for a few weeks now - it is very personal for me. Has been kind of a rough 6 months for me emotionally and this photo really hit at my core. I wasn't sure I was going to post it - but for some reason this morning - it was ok and I did.

I guess this is just one of those rare photos that reaches into you (the person taking it) deeper than many others and becomes special because it really speaks to you. We all like most of our photos - otherwise we wouldn't share them - but for me - as I am sure it is for all of you - we have the one or two rare and special ones. That is what this one is for me.

I really wasn't sure what the reaction to it would be - your comments, your kindness, your encouragment and inspiration mean so very much to me.

Thank you.
DailyPhotos > popular all-time > 2-02: This is another from Saturday's sunset. Several people have asked if the colors are real (natural) in yesterday's. It was taken as three bracketed exposures but only at -1, 0 and 1. Then combined in Photomatix. Then final processing in Capture NX2 (mostly brightness and focus adjustments) I didn't change any colors. I did actually have to desaturate a little because the orange and reds tend to be over saturated sometimes. I used the same processing on today's post. This one was actually taken a few minutes before the one I posted yesterday, so the clouds are more orange than red or pink
