"The Road to Color"
10/16/08
While Driving today I got stuck behind a SLOW POKE on the only single lane road leading out of town and was getting frustrated so I jumped off onto this small fire road and was shocked by the colors in this tunnel like ride. it was raining pretty good all day today so there was no sun and nasty puddles everywhere but I was able to snap this by opening my sun roof and sticking the D300 out on constant focus and shot it while doing about 10 mph. I was amazed by the composition I was able to get since I was in the center of the road and being above the car it gave me some extra height then the usual eye view, I think it worked out pretty well LOL.

In post I did a minor contrast adjustment and small crop off the bottom, that's it! I'm enjoying the colors here now but I see them disappearing very rapidly so I'm going to try and get some shots everyday now until their gone. It's supposed to get very cold here starting tonight in the 50's as a high during the day and low 40's to high 30's at night Brrrrrrrrrr. I got some other shots from today to process yet but I will be putting them in my Fall Colors 2008 gallery when there finished.

Hope you all enjoy your day,

10-15-2009… The Strangest Things…

You can find the strangest things after a bad rain storm…
11-29: Friday morning we woke up to fog in Fort Collins, so I decided to go up to Horsetooth again. I took this shot of the fog spilling over the hilll towards the water. I think this picture looks better when viewed larger.

"Winter Blues"

As much as I complain about the snow, it has provided us with some spectacular scenery. I drove by this on my way to work yesterday, there were still a few flurries falling from our most recent storm. On a typical day you wouldn't look twice at this scene. However, this morning with the sun beginning to break through the clouds and the snow still clinging to the branches, it was just breathtaking.

I processed the raw image using Capture NX2. I have CS3 but it does not recognize raw images from the D90. I have a 60 day trial on this software, trying to decide whether to purchase this or upgrade PS to CS4.

I really want a good macro lens. All this cropping to get the shot I want is not working well. Hmmmm do I starve the kids, deprive them of an education and dance classes, sell off the cars or stand on a street corner holding a sign that says "will work for glass"?

  LOL - J/K! ;)
1/11/10 "Edge of the World" Northern California Coastline at Dusk. The waves smooth and ethereal, the rocks looking like they were from another planet. This is a long exposure at dusk that I shot last night. I love the blue tones that come out at dusk and the smooth waves from the long exposure. More of my images can be found in my gallery or also join my Facebook Fan page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Yosemite-and-Bay-Area-Nature-Photography-by-John-Harrison/190152125697.
