Yes....I missed uploading a DP for yesterday! By the time we finished that 24 hrs. of frivilous fun in the desert area near Ridgecrest (California), I was too tired to tend to my DP; I'm admitting it!!
Had another outstanding day today; ending our trip by arriving in our own little hometown at sunset!
This is what we were watching while driving the last couple of miles down the highway! SPECTACULAR!! What a "welcome home"! Took the first available offramp in order to catch this shot!! (Tough choice, though! This was right after a double rainbow which we also pulled over for!!)

We did spend some discussion as to how difficult it was going to be to choose a DP for yesterday, and today!! Over the next several days, I will be using shots from this trip as DP's, as I add photos to the gallery.

details best seen @ size X3
While walking through my kids TV room last night I noticed a great beam of natural sunlight coming through the front window as the sun was going down and then saw my daughter Alexa's eyes catching the light as well. So I made her get off the couch (I know I'm a terrible Dad LOL) and had her stare out of the window. I should have went to get my 50mm Nikkor or 90mm Tamron for this Portrait to get a sharper image but I was lazy and stuck with the 18-200 VR that was on the body but I think it did a fine job, impressed me really. When seen as large as possible you can see each individual eye lash reflected on her retna, pretty cool!

I then hit this with my normal Portraiture work flow & slight glamour treatment, removed a bunch of small hairs in between the nose, shaped her brows and did some very minor burning to bring out her cheek bone a little bit and that's it. The shadow is all natural just using proper exposure settings and shooting tight to prevent any of the background in the room from showing. Alexa's eyes are usually a nice blue but she was wearing a purple shirt which turns them a wild greenish aqua blue seen here. She's my favorite model and loves to have her photo taken so we both make out on the deal whenever I want to do a portrait to keep my skills sharp ;) I like this one so much I'll be ordering it in a large format lustre print or possibly a canvas to hang on my office wall! ~I just love my kids ~

Hope you all like it, Have a Great Day everyone !

DailyPhotos > popular all-time > honeybee on blue
06/23/08

don't know what this bush and flower are but i sure like them. apparently the insects do too. i saw at least five different types counting this gal. i've been hearing that the bees are dying/disappearing and i can believe it as this is the first honeybee i've seen this year tho i've seen many types of wasp and bumbles. i thought it cool how bright yellow and bulging the pollen she's carrying is. i don't have macro and was too lazy to carry my tripod, even tho i got a fine new shoulder case for it from my fam, so this is just my 18-55mm zoom hand-held. you who know flowers and plants, who have time and inclination, do you know what this is

DailyPhotos > popular all-time > 4.8.08 - Ripples

I had intended to do another SP today, I thought it was about time, otherwise I'd start getting bullied again (you know who you are MB!). But it has been a very hectic day, I'll try to summarise it without boring anyone :)

I had barely finished my breakfast when I got a phone call, total change of plans for today. Apart from a few minutes over a late lunch, when I actually managed to get home, I've been on the move all day. I finally got back at 9pm, with a stack of emails to answer and more phone messages. Most of these mean more changes of plan for tomorrow, and more work, but one was good news, really good news. I have won my first photographic competition, hooray, and this is the image that won. I took it nearly a year ago, as one of a series, and it has remained one of my favourites. I would do certain things differently if I got the chance, but throwing a pebble into a lake to generate your own ripples is a neat trick, if you get your aim and the timing right :)

Unfortunately I have a pile of paperwork to do before the morning, so I can't promise that I'll be able to catch up with the Dailies, but I'll try later. But for now I'm going to have a beer, if I can drink it with this big daft grin on my face :))
DailyPhotos > popular all-time > August 8th: Late this very warm and very muggy afternoon, Eleanor and her daughter were flopped in the backyard. I politely asked Eleanor if she'd pose for me before getting treats and this was her response.

DailyPhotos > popular all-time > self-portrait in front of the fireplace, fairhaven library
06/06/08

one of the reasons, besides the wonderful staff, that the fairhaven library is one of my favorite places to go in town. i manually preset the focus on the chair then set the camera on my bag on a table and shot with available light - which is why the light is two colors as there's lovely long windows behind me. for those of you who liked the dark colors of yesterdays dp i reshot more of the whole bed which you can see - and there's pics from inside, including a bigger view of the area in this shot, (and ouside) the library too - http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/gallery/4855371_JgWrE#308101796_y8W58

This is a first for me. My first wild owl. When I saw this bird, it was flying off in the distance with a smaller bird harassing it. I thought it might be a Red Tailed Hawk. I made my way over to where it had landed in a tree, and as I got closer, I realized it was a big owl. I'm pretty sure it's a Great Horned Owl.
Who goes there.
