A different perspective on the statue of the horses. Someone asked if the horses were meant to be wild horses and i believe they are. It truly is a magnificent statue, one I pass almost daily. Thanks for all the comments on the fireman climbing the ladder statue shot. I really appreciate your input. The week is nearly half over...hope yours is going well. Amazing group of shots today and i loved perusing them!
06/15/10 - Halloween Pennant Up the gravel road from my normal swamp area, soy beans are planted on both sides of the field. They clean up the edges of the road every few years, and then various plants start to grow back like bushy sweet gum trees where song birds nest, Queen Anne's Lace, and soon morning glories. There are always a lot of sticks in this area, and this time of year, there always seem to be a lot of Halloween Pennant dragonflies perching on them. I guess this variety is suited to a slightly less wet area because there's not much water in this location. At any point, this guy hung out on the perch for quite some time, and I took a bunch of pics of him. I have cropped this just a bit to 8X10 size, but otherwise it is SOOC from my S3. I chose this one for the green background tones and detail. I also took some pics with Dad's 40D and a borrowed Canon 300mm lens. You may remember that I was not satisfied at all with the pics from the camera/Tamron lens. Here is the best from that camera: http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Nature/June-2010/12400102_x8pU2#901480267_UkdAa The detail is about the same or not as good IMO, and I just didn't compose the shot at an angle to get the green background. Instead, I got brown. Great for a science journal but not necessarily as a POTD. Anyway, I hope you enjoy. I really must find some new varieties maybe at a new spot. The only variety that I haven't shown yet this year that I've seen in my usual spot is an Emerald. In other news, Dad is finally leaving rehab tomorrow. He's excited. I am a bit concerned but hoping he will do well. He went back to the heart doctor who said that his heart had gotten stronger since the test in the ER that had us all so worried. Hopefully Dad will stay strong and be able to enjoy some of his normal activities like trips to the library and meeting a friend for chess or a movie. Also, Madi's Dad, Danny, was handed a builders magazine yesterday and was flipping threw it and saw a picture I took at the Museum of Life and Science about a year and a half ago where Madi and Johnny are running down their wetlands boardwalk. I had given the museum permission to use the picture and had sent them the original at one point. I knew they had used it on tent cards at the museum, but I didn't know about the magazine layout. How cool is that! Madi holding up the magazine for me: http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Nature/June-2010/12400102_x8pU2#901690135_Vp9ic I need to try to find a couple of other copies of that magazine! May 25 - Fastball To answer the question before it is asked, yes the ball was really on fire. The answer to the second question, a little on the tip of my index finger, which is why it is more bent in this shot.
10-30-08 Natural lenses A tiny spider web and a misty morning give so many lenses ! Hard to keep every drop sharp and to focus on the picture given through the drops ! This one came out good enough among many other shots. Can you see what was behind ? ^^
Day 113 - A stellar's jay, captured in my yard, as it was trying to get peanuts from a wreath peanut feeder. Although the light was quite bright when I took this shot, using my 400 mm lens at 1/8000th of a second, it was not bright enough to keep the image from being noisy. I have cleaned up most of the noise because I like the bird's position, but there is still a tiny bit of noise in the image. We have lots of stellar's jays in the Black Forest of Colorado where I live and a few regular blue jays. It is almost midnight and I have been processing images almost for eight hours straight. I'm going to post this and go to bed. Have a great day! Thanks to everyone for their comments on my iris and peony images, as well as my image for the "Liquid" challenge. I really appreciate the time you all take to provide feedback and support.
It's Mister dirty nose!
Happy Easter (4-8-07) I found the bird that lays the easter eggs ;). It's a Lilac-breasted Roller.
13.02.10 - Lady of the Butterflies This morning I was fortunate to be involved in another wonderful unique project. The full gallery is here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/Other/THE-LADY-OF-THE-BUTTERFLIES/11225711_ir6mU#787274992_Jw5Az I rarely do portrait work, so always jump at the chances when they come along. Hopefully this is another of those images that few would recognise instantly as one of mine. I did a B&W conversion, increased the contrast slightly, then applied a touch of warming filter. Tomorrow we are shooting at Goltho Church, which is where I shot the snowdrops that I used for my Daily on Wednesday.
"Beauty" It has been a long stressful day professionally, so I thought the best way to relax is by doing some SC :-) The b&w represents dull side of life and the colorful parrot represents my passion for photography and life. Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments on my daily yesterday :-) “The purest and most thoughtful minds are those which love color the most.” ~ John Ruskin~

9.3.09 - Seasons Thanks for all the kind words yesterday, I don't think I've got the flu, otherwise I'd be in bed, but I've definitely got a bug of some sort. Thanks for the comments about the stamp I was making in my SP Daily yesterday too, so I thought I'd share the full set with you today. Have a great day :)
