2-05: Another from Monday evening. I was actually hurrying to get to another location and kinda liked the look here so I snapped off a few shots. I think it sorta looks like fall colors on the trees
5th year Pic 002 - July - 05 2013. Butterfly park Changi airport, - Singapore Pic by son Jay Critiques welcome!
8/19/12 - Black bear; best viewed in the largest sizes. Photographed at Bear Country, SD. When I took this shot, there were probably about forty bears within the range of my camera. They were all moving around. It was a hot day; this one has just gotten himself wet down by a hose. I found the bears to be difficult to shoot, as their faces were so dark. I had to use the exposure compensation to lighten the face enough to pull out the detail there. Thanks for the comments on my daughter's cat. Much appreciated. Constructive criticism is always welcome.
3rd year Pic 313 - Aug 26 2011 Magpie Robin Khem Vilas, Ranthambhore More pictures at http://hershy.smugmug.com/Travel/Ranthambhore/RT-June-2011/17444320_Qps9C3 The magpie-robins or shamas (from shama, Hindi for C. malabaricus)[1] are medium-sized insectivorous birds (some also eat berries and other fruit) in the genera Copsychus and Trichixos. They were formerly in the thrush family Turdidae, but are more often now treated as part of the Old World flycatcher Muscicapidae. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magpie-robin
August 27, 2011-Caught another Promachus - Giant Robber Fly in the field by some power line towers. I was actually looking for some dragon flies but never saw any. The winds started picking up over night. So I am going to post early while I still have power. Stay safe everyone. (239:365)
5-24: We were trying to find a place called Butterfly Woods natural area and this very friendly horse ran over to the fence and let us pet her and feed her some grass. There were some cool patterns in the sky above so I decided to get a shot.
January 14. This is a 100 year old summerhouse in the dunes just 100 m. from the beach. I shot it just before sunset in order to get the glow in the windows and the dark BG. The foreground was darkened in order to draw all attention to this well-preserved house .
May 2: Leaf: It was windy here last evening when I was doing the POD and we found this bunch of leaves on the back deck when we out to get something. THought I could make something of this so I brought it in to try. Very late last night I had an idea when taking shots and this the result. This is not a crop, but a full shot with my macro. I lit the leave with one SB200 flash (small) from the rear at a 45 degree angle to the leave to get this effect. The veining on the rear popped with this lighting. EXIF: D200 on a tripod ISO 125 1/160 sec, f/9.0 +1/3 EV single R1 SB200 flash

Thursday, June 7, 2012 "DELICATE BEAUTIES" “Never make someone a priority when all you are to them is an option.” ~ Dr. Maya Angelou This summer, I am only perusing and commenting on photos as my limited time permits. Although it is summer vacation, I am not idle. This is a very busy time for me, as I have embarked upon a new and very challenging endeavor. Don't miss a blooming thing this spring! This is one of my favorite flower captures. An abundance of colors, fragrances, and scenic views await you in these gardens. Also, I read that the meaning of hibiscus is "delicate beauty;" thus, the caption. These orange hibiscuses are amazing tropical flowers that come in many shapes, sizes and varieties. They are known for their beauty and their large, colorful blooms. You can plant hibiscus flowers indoors, outdoors, as a shrub, or as a simple flower. With all of the different options available, who would not want to plant this flower? SPEAKING OF SPORTS: In the words of Reggie Miller, we watched "greatness grow up" last night as the "young guns" of OKC defeated the San Antonio Spurs in OKC and ended the series 4 - 2. OKC has advanced to the NBA Finals........woo hoo!! Tonight, Boston Celtics will host Miami Heat in game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The series is 3 - 2 with Boston leading the way. The family and I are pulling for Boston. If Boston is victorious tonight, they will go on to face OKC in the NBA Finals - date TBD. I truly appreciate your comments on yesterday's "Banana Tree" photo; it was the #2 photo of the day. Congrats to Maryann (aka "fotomom") for the #1 photo. Hang in there; tomorrow is Friday. October 10, 2009 - "Majestic Yellowstone Morning " This two stitch image was shot our first full morning in Yellowstone. The mountain splendor was highlighted in the early morning light. Yellowstone is not a place for sleeping in! We were on the road at 730am each morning we were in the park.

August 28, 2010 update - "Clouds Over Grapevine" An 8x10 version of this photo won Best Of Show and 1st Place in the City Views category for the annual "What's Great In Grapevine" photo contest. There were 106 amateur entries in the juried contest. January 31, 2010 - "Last Train To Ft. Worth" This was shot last Sunday at the historic Grapevine, Texas railroad station. I was checking out a Lake Grapevine marina for photo ops but did not see anything I liked. On the way home I noticed there were not many cars parked at the railroad station, so took the opportunity to shoot. That makes two Sundays in a row that my alternate venue has worked out :) Tourist trains run from Grapvine to the historic Ft. Worth Stockyards. footnote to Ed's comment - was shot HDR
