Sep.22,2006 To smile or not to smile Wanted to capture the drop reflections again. Was experimenting with how many smilies I can squeeze into the drop based on how far away the drop was from the background. This seemed optimal without cluttering up the drop too much. Wish I got this a bit more in focus. Here's the levels corrected version based on all the comments.
Queen:Oct.27, 2010 [Taken Oct. 24, 2010] I took this shot in Colorado Bend State Park, TX. There is a grassland along the trail and many Queens and some Monarches were there. They perched together and looks so busy. It was a wonderful place. I took some photos of a Monarch and some Queens on the same flowers. But I couldn't get any good shots. Monarches seemed to be more cautious than Queens.
November 7, 2009 - Reflections at a local Madison park. a short trip to Madison,Wisconsin on a beautiful, sunny weekend
07-09-2011 "Brotherly Love" These are the boys of friends of ours who were also in Florida while we were. I took many photos of the family and have been editing to show options of processing. I liked this one after I played in Topaz Adjust. I hope they like what I've done with some of the shots. Comments are always appreciated. Donna
Its been so hot outside and our air conditioner at work has been out for the last two days...but I made myself get out in the yard for a few minutes and I'm glad I did or I wouldn't have seen this beautiful butterfly!
The guide poles show how low the lake level was when photographed.
Iris with raindrops; best viewed in the largest sizes. Thanks so much for your comments on my shot of the fly. It is good, although not at all surprising, to learn that so many of you also take your camera into bathrooms. We truly are fanatics! Enjoy your day!

You can find his blog here: http://don.blogs.smugmug.com/ This photo was taken August 23, 2010 - it captures lava flowing from the Kilauea volcano on The Big Island of Hawaii. This was the main lava flow as it emptied into the ocean. I was sitting in the bow of a boat, bobbing up and down in the ocean, when I captured this pic. You can't really see the scale of the eruption in this shot, but about 15 feet of the "shore" is shown here. You can see the steam created when the molten rock hit the ocean - it would sometimes obscure the lava flows - but it was like a dance, when the steam cloud would part for a few minutes allowing a glimpse of the lava beneath.
11/15/09 - Escape Into an Alternate Reality (or something like that) I've been wanting to take pictures of the box cars in Fuquay for a while now. Yesterday I finally stopped to do so. Always something neat about trains to me. I've been staring at this car with the open doors for quite some time. It hasn't moved for months. Anyway, I grabbed some pictures of it and it's buddies and played around with them last night. With no special effects, I guess they are just orange box cars:-( So I converted to B&W and played with settings. Still boring. Then I decided to try and do a 'Wizard of OZ' kindof thing where it's B&W on one side but color through the door. I tried 5 pictures for the color one at least and different processing of them too. I'm not really happy with the outcome, but it's what I worked on last night, so I'll upload it today anyway. The sci fi girl in me keeps thinking wormhole or Stargate and that I need movement between the sides. But then the City on the Edge of Forever didn't have too much motion I don't think in that door. That said, maybe I needed to wave the inserted picture. Well, I twirled it anyway. Something to think about some more! Some other trials and the original are in my November gallery here: http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Nature/November-2009/10198920_oRbHf#713619436_AGvdo Poor Johnny caught the stomach bug that Joey had and he and I missed the birthday party yesterday...just heartbreaking. Hopefully he is some better today. Have a great Sunday! Maryann
Four in a row - Dec 3 2008 Finished work quite early today and the sun was in a good mood... so I drove by a little harbor to try my luck with some ships/boats. But these were way to cute to pass. Told you already that I have a thing with animals ;-)
Simple Beauty - Jun 4 2009 Many thanks for the nice comments on my butterfly shot! This rose would have been yesterdays DP, but I was too excited about those dazzling butterflies. I gladly offer this beauty to all you who visit my daily gallery, you're the best!!!
2/13/09 EASTERN MEADOWLARK Let me begin by thanking you all for all the warm compliments on my photos the last several days. I have tried to comment on some of yours as well, but slow internet and busy vacation days make it hard to get to everyone right now. This is my first ever photo of a meadowlark. They are so skiddish at times that you can't get close enough to capture the image. I have several photos of him singing which I hope to share later . Picture this...this is how I captured this image. We're riding down a dusty, Florida back road in the "country" and there he is down the way on a fence post. I open my door and we crawl slowly towards the gorgeous guy. Bob stops the car at a reasonable distance and I prop my lens between the door frame and the car frame just above the hinge (more-less)...what a great image stabilitzer (lol) and a good blind too , it seems. I'm happy...isn't he a beauty? HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND...AND MANY THANKS AGAIN FOR STOPPING BY ALL THESE DAYS...
Sunset reflection - Jan 30 2009 A beautiful and sunny winter day deserves a sunset as DP. Grabbed this one on my way home, a couple of kilometers from our house. Have a great weekend!!
