DailyPhotos > popular today > 12/15/09 - Johnny and the Gold-Nosed Reindeer It was 8pm last night, and I hadn't taken any pictures. Something got me thinking about this reindeer that I bought years ago still being wrapped up in the attic. So I went up and grabbed him for an impromptu photo shoot with Johnny. This was taken in our bonus room with my bed comforter thrown over the couch to provide the dark background. I bumped up the contrast in this shot to smooth out the black some. And, I cropped it square. DailyPhotos > popular today > "Boat-tailed Grackle...male" Day 287, Tuesday, December 15 At first I was a little confused about this bird.... because of his dark eye color. A rare, Shiny Cowbird I thought ???? But then I read that the eye color can range from dark to yellow and realized it was a male Boat-tailed Grackle. (We have a lot of these..... but none have yellow eyes.) As opposed to the female in yesterdays Daily, the males are noisy and gather in groups .... and when the sun shines on them just right.... they have a beautiful iridescent color. View X2, X3 to appreciate the color, Norm Ps... It appears there was some problem with my posted Daily yesterday... and it disappeared from the list about 10am yesterday morning. (Neither I nor Smugmug could figure out why....), So if you missed it..... and want to see the female Grackle, completely different in appearance.... click on the... DailyPhotos > popular today > 14.12.09 - Shop 'til You Drop Christmas shopping goes on whatever the weather! I had a strange case of deja vu when I was taking this. I'd just walked out of the bank, the building on the right, and noticed how the lights were reflecting off the pavement. It was raining hard so this was a snatched shot one handed, with the other hand trying to shelter the lens, not bad at 1/8th! As I was taking it I heard someone say "why is he taking a photo in the rain?", as if they couldn't see why! Just like the people bemoaning the fog last Friday up by the Cathedral. I sometimes wonder if most people see the world the same way as me, but I reckon it's their loss :)
