(Dec. 19, 2009) Gracey demonstrates how the great dane door works. For a sense of scale, Gypsy's door is right next to it and she barely fits through at 9 pounds.

No two are alike?
A typical snow crystal weighs roughly one millionth of a gram. This means a cubic foot of snow can contain roughly one billion crystals. A rough estimate of the number of snow crystals that fall to Earth per year is about 1 followed by 24 zeros, give or take a couple of zeros.

Thanks to George Fillmore (gefillmore) for the interesting article on snowflakes.

Santa stopped by our annual family Christmas party with a sack of presents for the kids. A good time was had by all
DailyPhotos > popular today > 12/20/09 - Hey, that present moves!
Every year around Christmas, Aunt Debbie comes to deliver presents. Debbie moved into our neighborhood and met our family right around the time Joey was born and has been spoiling the boys ever since. She has her own grandkids now, but they don't live closeby, and Joey and Johnny still get doted on quite a lot. Debbie lives about 45 minutes away now, so her stopping by yesterday with goodies was an extra treat.

A few years ago, Debbie showed up with the boys' gifts in these big style bags, and the kids did what kids so often do...they paid more attention to the 'box' than the gifts. As soon as they checked out what was in their bags this year, the immediately hopped into the bags themselves. You can see the grin! Joey almost doesn't fit in his bag anymore. Debbie may have to supersize next year. But, that didn't stop him from trying. There was grabbing of the handles and trying to use it like in a sack race too. Fun stuff!

Today is the anual kids' Christmas party at our house. J&J and 9 friends will be having fun starting at 1PM. Mostly I have the crafts, food, and set-up under control, but I'll be a busy camper for the next few hours making sure things are just right.

Thanks for your comments on my crystal Santa and tree from yesterday. It's amazing what you can do with less than $5 of stuff from the thrift store.

HAGD,
Maryann

More Santas!!! I took this pic about a month ago, while shopping... not, for christmas presents...

My shopping adventure yesterday was a success, for the most part. My wonderful husband has the difficult shopping this year... I'm the clean up shopper.. there's just one thing we were looking for that can't be found... a pair of shoes - specific color, specific style... oh well.

Anybody heading out there today??? Best of luck!! My suggestion is that while you are out there running around, you should buy yourself something... my choice would either be something electronic, or a good book...

It's Sunday, ladies and gentlemen... remember when you could pretty much only grocery shop on Sunday's?????

Have a fantastic day! Go have some fun!

DailyPhotos > popular today > Dark Angel in the Snow - Dec 19 2009

This lady is really tough to get on film... she never stops moving. I didn't succeed alone yesterday but today with Caroline's help I managed to get some good shots of our Angel. While they where doing some exercises which were rewarded with 'the ball' I was ready to aim and shoot...

This mask and yesterdays "Unlatched" photo were captured at an African Arts & Crafts Gallery in Galveston. I have created a gallery with the masks that I photographed along with some additional post processing at

http://dakotacowboy.smugmug.com/Photography/Masks/10670791_u87G9/1/744755306_s6gQb

The door in yesterdays shot was from Africa and for sale. I did not notice the price.

None of the mask photos stood out as one that I liked best, so this one is the first shot that I took in the store. Because the masks were close together, I did some white vignetting to cover their immediate surroundings.
