The rewards of getting up very early.
DailyPhotos > popular today > Help...I've fallen and I can't get up!!

It was a very nasty dreary day today...so I had to go in and dig up an oldie!

This is Marco laying in the little be they have had since kittens. He and his sister both fit in this bed when they were little. Now ne takes up the whole thing and just crams his body in there :)
Messing around with a new flash as one of my SB800's had the nerve to finally die before I had to do 3 shoots. Timing really stunk on this one. Forced me to replace the flash, so I went with the new Sb900. I loved the look on his face here in this shot

these were shot saturday afternoon, they're in order showing some of the 'jive' moves they used while they sdang, but its taken me til now to get them processed. with that for foreshadowing i'm sad to say that i'm going to have to quit the dailies for a while. this is probably no surprise to you regulars who've noticed the lack of posts lately. its not l;ack of desire on my part, the time of year or being too busy alas - the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak as its said. just have an energy reading near zero right now. the usual health suspects have ramped up and ganged up, and invited a few friens for the holidays i fear. i suspect i'll be gone, at least not posting, for the rest of the year tho i plan to come by and look and comment every so often when i have some energy. have been able to keep working a couple shifts a week, and so by God's grace i'm keeping body and soul together and indoors, but just haven't any energy beyond bare survival right now. i just got my copy of my book today. i was quite pleased with the quality and wouldn't hesitate to use blurb again. y'all daily folk, and other smug friends, and regular viewers have been a real blessing to me. i pray blessings on you all for your kindness. please feel free to e- me or say hi on facebook if you feel so inclined, you can also comment on any pic here of course as i will be checking in from time to time

Day 281, Wednesday, December 9

I haven't identified this bird yet, but here's the story......

I was shooting a Great White Egret that had caught a GIANT rat. I don't think you want to see the photos. He was having trouble swallowing it and kept coughing it back up. Yuck....!!! Then this little guy, about 4 inches long and at least 10 yards away, landed on a reed between the Egret and myself. Even though he was a long distance away and wouldn't stay still for very long, I was able to get two quick shots before he was gone..... I never thought the photos would be acceptable.

When I opened the photos, I was surprised how reasonably good they were... for the distance I had to shoot. When I crop these kind of captures, resolution is lost.
Then it dawned on me..... Was this the result of my new experiment with shooting RAW????,,,, Did I gain that much???
If so, it is certainly another reason to shot RAW.

DailyPhotos > popular today > 8.12.09 - Get Down!

I had almost given up on finding any natural colour in December, but in reality I had just stopped looking properly. A local cafe had agreed to stock some flyers for my work, and on the way back to the car I walked through the Arboretum for the first time in a few weeks. There were plenty of bright berries, even a few small Winter flowers, but the real beauty was a small patch of dead leaves. It was very dark down in the wet grass, but for a few seconds they were illuminated by a shaft of light slicing through the trees. The best way to show them off was to get down and wet, but I think it was worth it. There are some more shots here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/Nature/THE-ARBORETUM/6049364_a8pPu#735846472_YQuXX

I was going to add a dark vignette to frame this, but the more I looked at it the more I realised that it already had a natural one. I was shooting at ISO 800 because of the low light, but the sudden shaft of light gave a fast shutter speed in the end. I increased the contrast slightly to bring the colour back, and an unsharp mask adds to the natural grain and impressionistic feel.
