08/29/14 - Church on the Hill My Blog Taken on our trip to the mountains last month.  We drove past it and turned around for the shot.  I removed power lines, enhanced details, and did some of massaging to get it to this result. Here's the original. SmugMug Link After some research, I determined that this is Meat Camp Baptist Church just outside Boone, NC. HAGD, aryann

August 2, 2009 Noogies.......Traverse City, Michigan - A good time was had by all. This started as a sweet little shot of my daughter Jill, and 3 of her boys giving me a silhouette in the sunset and ended with, lets give Mommy a noogie.
Sunday, February 26, 2012 "RED BARON SQUADRON" "When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it." ~ Henry Ford SOOC, uncropped; flash didn't fire Polished to perfection, and built in 1943 comes this 69 year old Stearman E75, N802RB of the Red Baron Pizza aerobatic team. It carried Boeing construction number 75-6451. The Red Baron Squadron was established in 1979 as a promotion for Red Baron Pizza. Thursday, August 28, 2014 "A QUIET MAN vs A QUIET WOMAN" “Few people make sound or sustainable decisions in an atmosphere of chaos. The more serious the situation, usually accompanied by a deadline, the more likely everyone will get excited and bounce around like water on a hot skillet. At those times, I try to establish a calm zone but retain a sense of urgency. Calmness protects order, ensures that we consider all the possibilities, restores order when it breaks down, and keeps people from shouting over each other. You are in a storm. The captain must steady the ship, watch all the gauges, listen to all the department heads, and steer through it. If the leader loses his head, confidence in him will be lost and the glue that holds the team together will start to give way. So assess the situation, move fast, be decisive, but remain calm and never let them see you sweat.” ~ General Colin Luther Powell, excerpt from "It Worked for Me: In Life and Leadership" And might I add that although the Bible declares that........"in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength." ~ Isaiah 30:15 (The Bible, KJV), sadly, the Israelites chose to trust in men instead of God. Remember, "He who angers you, conquers you.” ~ Elizabeth Kenny Hang in there; tomorrow is Friday! ***#14 photo of the day*** (photo taken 7/15/2014) My Homepage: http://www.Godschild.smugmug.com
Doing my afternoon walk, saw the clouds forming over the city pond. Took a few shots and decided to convert it into B/W
February 27, 2013 Another old, abandoned building in the mining, Ghost Town of Silver City, Nevada. I really wonder why all the apparent openings in the roof. But alas - as I mentioned yesterday, there wasn't anyone around on this Sunday to ask. I processed this with Picmonkey's daguerreotype filter and rather liked the way it looked. Here's the original shot - let me know which one you like best. http://lgood.smugmug.com/Architecture/Buildings/7752393_7Pg76q#!i=2359563656&k=2ncjGzD Have a fantastic day today my friends! 11/23/10 - Tree in the Fog I have been watching and studying this tree for a couple of years now. Whenever there is fog, it seems to stand out from the backdrop...a solitary, lonely figure. I finally made up my mind yesterday to figure out where to park the car to get out to take a picture...not a small feat. I do try to stay safe, but this location is more precarious than some. Most days I am joyful as I spend time with the kids. My life is full of laughter and color; it's vibrant and full of life like many of my pictures. But some days at least deep inside it is like this too. I guess a bit of that side is slipping through today. I stopped to think about my mother for a few minutes when I took this. She was involved in a horrible traffic accident with a tractor trailer on a foggy morning in November just before Thanksgiving in 1985. For me, the fog will always be more than just the fog. Back to bright and cheery tomorrow I promise... Thanks for your comments on Johnny and the Jon boat. It was as serene out there as you thought. Little wind, warm sun on our skin, very few boats out on the lake...a calming hour without the chaos of life. HAGD, Maryann

11/05/09 - Historic Yates Mill Pond at Sunset I posted a picture of the actual water wheel in my gallery earlier this year. In this picture, you can't see the wheel, but you get this lovely reflection instead. After Joey's flu shot, I decided to make the best of a wonderful afternoon and go for a quick hike around the mill pond. Unfortunately, we were really there a good 30-60 minutes too late to be taking good pictures. I had to bump up the saturation on this one to improve the color. This is the same shot taken on 10/26 last year when the sun was better and the tree closest to the mill still had yellow leaves on it. http://fotomom.smugmug.com/Yates-Mill-Pond/Yates-Mill-Photo-Contest-2009/7088136_34LZC#454338880_TdGL2 In both cases, the sky looks better in the reflection than in the final shot. I'm not sure how to get around that...especially in last night's picture when the sky really didn't have much blue in it. We still have not had a frost or freeze at my house, but it look like it's coming Friday night into Saturday. I am storing ceramic bird baths and pots and taking in fragile plants that I can save. I sure wish today was Friday... HAGD, Maryann
