1/30/15 - Late night snowfall; check it out in the largest size. Thanks for your comments on my other shot of a snowstorm. Much appreciated! I've been thinking maybe we should do a still life challenge for 1 month. What do the rest of you think? I know I'm not great at setting up still lifes and would like to learn to do better. We've been taking a Great Courses class on Old Dutch Masters. Some of them created amazing still lifes, which have given me some inspiration.
Sunrise over the rice terraces (best larger) Panoramic view of some of the 1300 year old flooded rice terraces in Yuanyang County, China. The best time of year to photograph them and get the sunrise or sunset reflected in the water is the winter (although it meant living and sleeping in my outdoor clothes since the temperature indoors was the same as outdoors) Other photos from the area can be seen here: http://goo.gl/dfjnzG 30/01/15 www.allenfotowild.com

January 30, 2015 This hood ornament is not (at least I don't think it is) original to the car, but it looked great on this old Dodge Roadster. As always at car shows the hoods of the cars are open so that the spectators can see the motors. I get it, but I'd really like to see cars with all the hoods closed, but then guys like Bill who are into the motors would be disappointed. This shot was taken about mid morning looking straight down over the hood to get a good photo of the ornament. The sun was already hot and bright, thus you can see the sun streaks and a slight sunburst on the hood. One of my favorite things about this and the original shot is the shadow of the ornament on the hood. Processed with Topaz Glow. Have a "glowing" day today my friends! Immature Bald Eagle - from a series I took a few weeks ago. Hopefully I will take some new pictures soon:) Taken near Olympia, Wa.
Friday, January 30, 2015 "GODDESS OF SPEED" (The Metamorphosis) "I have one speed; I have one gear: go!" ~ Charlie Sheen Flashback Friday....... I confess that I favor the original version, but I am rather pleased with the end result of this one (another one of my artistic creations post processed with Topaz Labs)! It's obvious that I'm having so much fun utilizing it. Hey, to each his / her own, right? My 30-day trial ends in a few days, but I have undoubtedly put it to good use. Will I decide to purchase it or not? Only time will tell. Once upon a time in America, automobiles could be elaborate works of art, crowned by brazen ornaments that seemed ready to leap forth from the hood to lead the way. This vintage hood ornament was made for Packard luxury automobiles in the 1930s/40s (see the "1930 Packard 734 Speedster that was my yesterday's post). Symbolizing the spirit of the company, the ornament features the figural winged goddess of speed with a tire held in her outstretched hands. The chrome-plated sculpture stands about 5 1/2 in. tall. They sure don't make them like this anymore. Alpine Foothills I took this shot a year ago, but this is a blend of the original and a negative of the original, with a little dodging here and there.
29.01.15 - Snowmageddon! It seems that forecasters and the media are only interested in apocalyptic weather these days, frankly I find it ridiculous. Any possibility of rain and they issue flood warnings, any chance of a hot day and suddenly they're issuing instructions on how to cope with heat exhaustion and dehydration, and a few snow flakes constitute "stay indoors, it is far too dangerous to travel"! Well this is the worst of it, luckily I had my high altitude survival gear and was able to mount an expedition to the local shops for provisions :) Thank-you for the wonderful comments on my alien skies composites, there may be more to come. A couple of you thought you saw a dust spot on Saturn's rings yesterday, but it was actually a small Moon and part of the image :)
January 29, 2015 The Simplicity of Solitude Medicine Lake Jasper National Park, Alberta J in J 2015 - The grand landscapes of Jasper are truly amazing. I also enjoy shooting the more intimate landscapes and the simplicity of solitude. * For the month of January I will, once again, be posting images from my annual trips to Jasper in January.
Woven-wood artist Patrick Dougherty installed a one-of-a-kind outdoor sculpture at Wegerzyn Gardens Metropark in Dayton, Ohio. It is created entirely of willow branches and formed in a serpentine shape reflective of some Ohio Native American burial mounds. The sculpture is expected to remain standing for approximately two years at which time it will be composted. I like the way the light was falling here to highlight the bench in this scene.
1-30-15 Wild ride.
