My first macro.
Be honest. I can take it. These are Celine's First Communion pearls from a few years ago (the pearls, not the image). The image is true to color. They are not white, but rather a creamy peach. We don't have a macro lens. I used an extension tube and a manual focus 100 mm lens. The image is almost s.o.c. except I used the heal tool to erase the detail in weave of the fabric in the foreground. Viewed in X2L, you can see the flaws on the surface of the pearls.

Thank you so much for all of the well wishes for Tino. His absence would leave such a hole in my heart.

Thanks a lot for all the comments on my yesterday daily !

Another shot from the webs in the mist session... I was lucky enough to find a whole field full of such spiderwebs so I tried different angles. There was a little wind so having the droplets I want in focus was really difficult (and a rather lucky thing)... I even failed to get some aligned captures for focus stacking...

The White Horse Tavern, Hudson Street, across from Abdingdon Square, Manhattan.

On November 3, 1953 Dylan Thomas sallied forth from the White Horse to the Chelsea Hotel where he told a friend he had just had 18 straight whiskies. The next day he became very ill and was admitted to St. Vincent's Hospital very early on November 5th, where he died of pneumonia on November 9th. He had just turned 39 on October 27th.

"Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night."

Do not go gently into that good night, Dylan Thomas

Taking a break from bird shots.
Went back in time, 2006, for this shot of a little dog with big plans.

DailyPhotos > popular today > 9.11.09 - Fog Lights

Today has been a beautiful one, fantastic weather, nice sunset, but the fog tonight was an extra surprise. When I came off the squash court at about 9.30pm I was hardly dressed for photography in near freezing fog, but I've been waiting too long for some fog to waste this opportunity. So instead of going home for a hot shower I drove straight to the Cathedral Quarter looking for photo opps! Needless to say I was the only person in shorts!!

I got a few good shots of the fog and the golden glow from the Cathedral floodlights, but this one was a real stroke of luck. This is one of my favourite shooting positions, but for 10 minutes I froze waiting for someone to come along and be a "ghost" for me. So I wandered around for a while, and was on my way back to the car when I spotted these two guys heading for my spot. I raced ahead of them (you see the shorts were useful!) and fired 3 quick shots as they approached. One was out of focus, one had lousy comp, but this one turned out OK I think. Straight out of camera, not even a crop, just a touch of in camera sharpening and low light noise reduction. This is a beautiful spot, but when the fog descends it becomes utterly surreal. I'm one photog hoping for more fog this winter :)

Thanks for the great response to my model railway shots, you guys blow me away!

X2 for best detail

Another one of the shots I took last Thursday. I never get tired of going to the beach. Don't think I ever will.
