Wow, I feel so honored by all the comments I've gotten on my recent posts! I can't believe the support of I've received, thank you guys so much! I was so apprehensive about doing those, I'm such a completely bonehead about post-processing, and it's not my usual style at all. So I was grateful to have such kindness from you guys.

But you get a new photo today. :-) Paul and I went out to dinner tonight at this new restaurant called "Pirate Island"! The food was okay, but the atmosphere was fun! I nabbed a few fun shots and this was my favorite -- he sits guarding his hordes of treasure right at the entrance. I HDR'd the thing (obviously) and loved the way the colors and textures came out of the rock. I'm working on another one as well from the arcade entrance, will show you that soon.

My link today is a new artist for me, and I LOVED the feel and unique look of this portrait. Hope you like it (by the way, does anyone still look at these links?)

DailyPhotos > popular today > 11/07/09 - Soaking Up the Light
This bench and table are in my yard facing one of my ornamental ponds. In theory, I would go out here often to sit and enjoy the view, right? Well, I don't sit much... But, hey, it's really pretty in my yard especially with the early morning light shining on it. I converted to B&W and added the soft blur.

Thank you again for all the feedback on the mill shots. I was back at the mill yesterday for the 3rd day in a row practicing and trying to get a good photo. The wind was too high. But, today will be sunny, 60+, and the wind will be less than 5mph, so I'm going to try one more time. I've got it down now getting the sky to be a much better shade of blue to start out with, and if I bracket, I can come back home and even enhance the shots further. I've learned a lot this week from trial and error and your help and encouragement.

For the first time in a long time, I don't have some grand event to attend this weekend. A brief rest before the holiday season kicks into gear I'm sure.

It's not too late for US and Canadian residents to sign up for Project Feederwatch. Details here:

If some of you guys would like to friend me on Facebook, I'd love to hear from you on that forum as well.

Best regards and HAGD,
Maryann
DailyPhotos > popular today > 11/10/09 - The Solitary Leaf
I didn't take this picture...one of my boys did. Honestly, I'm not sure if we know which one, but I suspect Johnny. Was it on purpose because he saw the light and wanted to capture it. Or was it an accident that in all his cuteness he was having trouble lining up the camera on the tripod. I may never know. But, I loved the shadow of the deck rail (this is the observation deck at Yates Mill where I took both of my water reflecton shots from). A place now certainly sentimental in my heart. I kept coming back to this photo over and over again. So, I chose to work on it and share it with you today.

I cropped it very wide because the shadow was so high in the frame. I turned it B&W. I used SC to color the leaf (first attempt and grabbing that leaf was not easy!), and then I removed some screws using the spot healing tool. They were a big disctraction in the solitary message.

The original is here as well as some of the boys' other best photographs from the last couple of weeks:

Thanks as always for yesterday's feedback on the mallard picture:-)

Thanks for all your comments yesterday about the cracked glass. Stacking is something new to me, that LordV here on Smugmug and Flickr has done tutorials on. His macros are fantastic and has turned the little things in life into wonderful artwork.
DailyPhotos > popular today > No bugs today...just two buzzards setting on the fence pole!!

I was totally shocked again today at all the comments on my ladybug...Thank you all so very much. I feel like I've learned quite a bit this past year...but I still have alot more to learn.

I think I need to go out bug hunting more often...LOL!
DailyPhotos > popular today > Another shot of the cat who came to visit us on Halloween.
It's been over a week since my new friend showed up at my bird feeder and he has been by to visit each day!
I checked with my neighbors to see if he belonged to any of them. Some said that they had also seen him around, but no one claimed him.
Each day I have found myself looking forward to where I would see these beautiful green eyes looking at me from around the yard. He is still very cautious, and will not come to me, but I have put some food out for him which he will come and eat as soon as he feels that the coast is clear for him! I thought this might give the birds at my feeder a break from his hunting, but he seems to be a very independent minded fellow so I am not sure about that!
At least I know that he has a full stomach on these cold nights.
My next question is do I name him or just leave him a man of mystery?
DailyPhotos > popular today > Happy Family

Here is a shot of my girlfriend and her family from the photo session yesterday. I really like how casual everyone looks and I know it just fits their family perfectly. I didn't pose them at all and love the way they just came together like this.

Dirkster - thanks for the suggestion on the larger group shot from yesterday. I took your advice and cropped the edges. I was questioning that myself, so thanks for seeing it for me and sharing.

Series: Moodimism - The New Noir

MUST View in X2

A return visit to Cafe Rouge and it's true, this image is truly representative of my new moodimism, a noir, interspersed with vivid colour, light, motion, blurr, innuendo, darkness and mystery. Moodimism the concept is ofcourse inherrent, deep, laying within my soul but as with much of my photography, inspired by J, who was able to reach within me and retrieve, rekindle, my artistic spirit.

A WORD OF THANKS
