June 17 - Water Tube Slide

I took this image in the early morning fog on a small lake with very still water which resulted in nice colors and reflections.

Thanks for the comments on my pipe wall abstract on Friday. Those images are fun to play with when processing!

06/17/13 - Gloriosa Daisy and Start of 5th Year Posting a Daily Photo

My Blog: http://maryanng.blogspot.com/2013/06/gloriosa-daisy-and-start-of-4th-year.html

Back on June 11th 2009, I start posting a daily photo.  I made it through the first two years without missing a day and almost always posting something new.  Last year, the 3rd year, I faltered a bit missing a few days and posting some older shots.  I'm committed to another year, the fourth, but I'm sure I'll miss a day here or there.  Still, I love taking pics and looking at those of fellow photographers as time permits.  Thanks to all that have stopped in over the past 3 years to offer encouragement.

I took my daily in the Kidd Family Garden on Saturday.  Below is a shot I took in the same garden back on June 13th 2009.  It was my 3rd daily post:-)  Last year the gloriosa daisies didn't do as well, but I'm glad to see them back looking totally fantastic this year.

6/17/13 - Dale Chihuly exhibit at Seattle Center; this is only one of many glass sculpture installations in this amazing permanent exhibit. This one is quite large and stretches all across a big room that is kept completely dark except for the lights on the glass. I handheld this using a relatively slow shutter speed. It is really neat to see the astounded cries of amazement of all the other people viewing the exhibit. It just blows you away!

I really appreciate all your comments on my shot of the strawberries, which ended up as the #1 shot for the day --- to my surprise!. I've tried to capture strawberries quite a few times before and most of those shots either had a problem with the dof or with the capture of the red. I was pleased with this one and am glad so many of you liked it. What a lot of wonderful images you folks put up today! Really got myself revved up looking at them!

Just a fun shot, The plane is about 2 Miles from the Kite.
Repeat after me...

DP168-2013 Posted June 17; processed ditto
I chose this shot for its repeat pattern and limited color palette. It wasn't well focused and was shot in flat light, so I added a couple of filters to give it a little more visual interest.

Bear's Breeches, aka Oyster Plant, Acanthus mollis
Family Acanthaceae . . . Native to the Mediterranean...A tender perennial, hardy outdoors only in the warmer climate or growing zones in the USA, but potentially invasive where it is hardy.
Acanthus flowers typically have thorns on their sepals (that's what 'acanthus' means), so beware when handling.

Thanks so much to all of you who left comments for yesterday's shot of a cemetery angel even when I wasn't able to comment myself. Each one was heartily appreciated.
2013-06-17 My Dad

My Dad who turned 70 this past February was down from Bar Harbor Maine and spent Fathers Day with me and my family. Very special day for the both of us. Our first Fathers Day together in over 30 years. My parents divorced when I was 12, very nasty. My Mother kept him from seeing his children. I had to leave my home when I was 15 and entered the foster care system and my Dad was never able to find me. FB for all of its pros/cons brought us back together. My Dad had been searching for me and his pastor told him to join FB. He did and we connected. We are so happy to have found each other again. I love my Dad and he is such a good man! Looking forward to many years together, better late then never!

"SUNFLOWERS" Theme

"Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours." ~ Ayn Rand, Russian-born American Author

I have been creating tablescapes for our kitchen/breakfast nook area since December (2009) when I decorated our table for Christmas. View additional photos of this one and the entire gallery here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/11014855_M5W6FW#!i=2559534992&k=rfVmjXK

The sunflower chair backs (yes, those are chair backs and not placemats) were my inspiration to set the stage for a spring table setting that's warm and inviting. I paired the golden yellow with its complementary color, green, for a table setting that beckons everyone to gather around. Next, I tied in dishes and ceramic fruit (a lemon and a pear) to bring out the fresh seasonal feel of the sunflowers. After that, I reused the Easter basket (centerpiece for April's table setting) to anchor the center of the table. Finally, after the meal, we sat and sipped..........on fresh, homemade lemonade, of course:).

Have a marvelous Monday!
