Day 057: New York from New Jersey - Feb 26. A nice, warm day yesterday relatively speaking. Some sunshine and about 35 degree F. Downright balmy after the below zero temps that we've been experiencing. Took a drive to Liberty State Park in Jersey City so that I could have a walk along the waterfront. This image was shot from in front of the historic Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal. The foreground lights are those that used to light old ferry slips and the background, across the Hudson River, is Lower Manhattan and One World Trade Center. Today back to gray skies and very cold temps.

Sunday, May 15, 2011 "ANTIQUE CHEVY" (pp version) "Keep calm and drive a Chevy!" ~ Unknown Author Linda (aka Lgood) is one of the absolute best at capturing automobile shots and their reflections, and I immediately thought of her when I spotted this GM classic. Unfortunately, there wasn't an information card, so I am unsure as to the year of this "oldie but goodie." My hubby's guess is it's a "1930 something Chevy." The pink sign made spectators chuckle. It warned, "UNLESS YOU ARE NUDE.....PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH MY CHEVY! BUCKLES, BELTS, AND BUTTONS SCRATCH." As you can see, I did some pp with this one, but it is uncropped. The original image can be viewed here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/gallery/16609546_tdrqK#!i=1274849067&k=9MMHm66&lb=1&s=A Your comments on yesterday's "Got Mail" POTD are really appreciated; you all are really a wonderful community of photographers who are also supportive and helpful. God is and has been exceptionally kind to all of us; have a blessed and safe Sunday, everyone. Sunday, February 20, 2011 "O is for ORNAMENT" "A true friend is someone who knows your faults and genuinely loves and accepts you anyway." ~ Unknown Author This is a beautiful, crystal Christmas tree ornament that was a gift from my best friend in 2009. I turned off the lights in the room to darken the background. Also, I intentionally did not position the camera to center the photo, because I had an "eye" for something different. Additionally, before I pushed the button to take the picture, I twisted the hanger to make the ornament spin - thus, the variations in color. Finally, as the French saying goes, "Voila!" Saturday, July 2, 2011 "1955 FORD FAIRLANE TOWN SEDAN" “Vision without execution is just hallucination.” ~ Henry Ford Here's my very 1st HDR pp image........best viewed in XLarge!! A special thanks to Lgood's husband Bill (owner of a Ford Fairlane) who stated that this is "a 1955 (maybe a '66) but nearly certain it is a '55." This multi-colored Ford Fairlane Town Sedan was my favorite in the show. I love the bright colors that changed depending upon the angle from which it was viewed. If you look real close, you will see reflections galore in this one, most notably a red Chevy pickup that was parked beside it. According to Wikipedia, "The Ford Fairlane was an automobile model sold between 1955 and 1970 by the Ford Motor Company in North America. The name was taken from Henry Ford's estate, Fair Lane, near Dearborn, Michigan. Over time, the name referred to a number of different cars in different classes; the Fairlane was initially a full-size car but became a mid-size car from the 1962 model year. The mid-sized model spawned the Australian-built Fairlane in 1967, although it was considered a large car there." (Reprinted text from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Fairlane_Americas) Check out the original here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/17330226_SSNF6P#1361726886_85RFQx2. Your comments regarding my pp work on yesterday's T-Bird were both inspiring and appreciated. By the way, my hubby and our two sons are the "vintage vehicle/car buffs." ***#4 photo of the day and all-time*** (photo taken 6/11/2011) My Homepage: http://www.Godschild.smugmug.com

Monday, December 17, 2010 "IKEBANA DOUBLE ENDER AND ROWBOAT with NIIJIMA FLOATS" by Dale Chihuly "Your attitude is like a box of crayons that color your world. Constantly color your picture gray, and your picture will always be bleak. Try adding some bright colors to the picture by including humor, and your picture begins to lighten up." ~ Allen Klein I've selected this one as my computer's screesaver. I am a huge admirer of Dale Chihuly's glass art. These were imported from Finland. The entire gallery of this collection can be viewed in my ArtScape folder. Tuesday, December 27, 2011 "BROKEN, BUT BEAUTIFUL" "Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one." ~ C.S. Lewis No flash and SOOC, other than the border.......final Christmas theme post of the year:) It was Christmas in November when I received this! My best friend (of 23 years) and I exchanged Christmas gifts when she (and her family) were here during the Thanksgiving holidays. I think she's started a tradition of giving me a Christmas tree ornament each year. Unfortunately, when I pulled this one out of the bag, it was broken (most likely during shipping), although you probably cannot tell in this photo. It's an angel inside the ornament that's suppose to sit atop the base and light up once the light switch is turned on. Actually, it's amazing how much I like the fact that the angel appears to be sitting at the base of the ornament holding a picture. Nevertheless, it's beautiful and I love and appreciate it. The frame was applied from PicNik. View the 2010 ornament here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/Project365/Daily-Dose-of-One-A-Day-2011/15049328_sF4n2j#1192553561_ebJxx-A-LB The glass bowl in the background is the one in the Thursday, December 22, 2011 post, which can be viewed or reviewed here: http://godschild.smugmug.com/Project365/Daily-Dose-of-One-A-Day-2011/15049328_sF4n2j#1595885649_SVSM4TJ-A-LB I wholeheartedly appreciate your comments on my photos and I enjoy perusing your outstanding photos. Friday, December 31, 2010 "DESERT WILDFLOWER TOWERS" by Dale Chihuly "As I have practiced it, photography produces pleasure by simplicity. I see something special and show it to the camera. A picture is produced. The moment is held until someone sees it. Then it is theirs." ~ Sam Abell First of all, Donna McCommon, this is why I was so excited about your POTD yesterday; I had already chosen this picture to be my final post of the year when I arrived home from Arizona. This is SOOC without flash. I am a huge Dale Chihuly fan; great minds think alike! Secondly, I would like to thank you, fellow SmugMuggers, for your inspiring comments on my 2010 POTDs. I learned so much from many of you, made some new friends along the way, improved my photography skills immensely, and even had a photo (12/21/2010) to land in the #1 spot, two photos (12/17/2010 and 12/29/2010) to land in the #2 spot, and several to land in the top five. Who knew that posting a photo a day would render such rewards for a self-described "advanced amateur?" Moreover, I am so excited about perusing all of your 2011 fabulous photos, posting comments, and giving you a thumbs up. You ladies and gentlemen are meticulously discerning. I wish I could meet each of you on my route during this lifetime. Finally, as the world turns, we only have one life to live. May the guiding light that leads to another world keep us young at heart, unrestless, and out of General Hospital. My prayer for each of you is a safe, blessed, healthy, fun, and happy 2011. In spite of the bumps and bruises, God has been exceptionally kind to all of us. Friday, January 28, 2011 "PRIMARY AND SECONDARY" Abstract "There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Sunday, July 15, 2012 "AZURE SEAFORM PAIR" by Dale Chihuly (2011) $5,600.00 "Among the several kinds of beauty, the eye takes most delight in colors." ~ Joseph Addison Here's the final post in the Dale Chihuly 2012 (Dallas, TX) series; thanks for your comments. Dale Chihuly's official website is www.chihuly.com. During our visit, I overheard someone say that turquoise is Dale Chihuly's favorite color. This work of art was sitting atop a pedestal and enclosed in glass, but that didn't prohibit me from taking a picture. "The Azure Seaform Pair is a two-piece composition that resonates with these reflective qualities of marine forms. A tidal cadence of turquoise along the mouth of the piece illuminates the bands of lapis strata that wrap the body. Set against these temperate tonalities, a radiant yellow lip wrap defines the folding contours of the body, accentuating the form articulated in this piece. This handblown Studio Edition measures approximately ten inches across and arrives with a custom-designed display vitrine and Chihuly Seaforms, a book detailing the inspiration behind this series, with forty-four full-color photographs and an introduction by oceanographer Sylvia Earle. Azure Seaform Pair is a fluid expression of the aquatic translated through the artist’s chosen medium of glass." ~ Reprinted text from DC's PP View the back of this hand blown glass art piece here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/19371744_9MCHQS#!i=1936594779&k=ZvBn3dj&lb=1&s=A Be blessed and share the rest! Sunday, July 28, 2013 "C" is for CHIHLY'S CENTERPIECE CLUSTERS "I tend to do things on a huge scale because it's exciting. I like to push things in new and different ways," Chihuly said. "My philosophy is: when one is good, a dozen is better." ~ Dale Chihuly SOOC, uncropped, flash fired Photo submission for Donna McCommon's "Alphabet Challenge" We recently took a quick break from our vacation in Arizona and drove to Las Vegas, NV. There have been numerous additions and attractions to the Las Vegas Strip (my favorite being City Center) since my first / last visit in 2006. Also, I was torn between posting chimes, chocolate, cake, car, or Chihuly - but, of course, Chihuly won! I've been an admirer of Dale Chihuly's glass art since viewing (at the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library & Museum in Little Rock, AR in 2006) the chandelier that he designed for the Clinton's Millennium Christmas at The White House. A photo of it is here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/11041770_4sVsXc#!i=772526419&k=9zCpKh3&lb=1&s=A Furthermore, it's official name is "Clusters Persians Centerpiece," and it features Persian blown glass elements which are open, disc-like forms with striations (called “body wraps”). I had to quickly "point and shoot" in an effort to avoid people's heads being in the photo; as you can imagine, there were several admirers photographing this work of art. Although the lighting is very limited surrounding Chihuly's glass art, if you get to the area, take the time to peruse the artwork; it is beyond amazing. Additionally, I must admit that although I prefer uploading and posting my photos in the order which they were taken, I delved into my "Vegas Baby, Vegas" 2013 gallery to post this one for Donna McCommon's "Alphabet Challenge" today. You'll be seeing my Las Vegas photos in future posts, but for now, you can view my complete "Vegas Baby, Vegas" 2013 gallery (minus the photos that are "in the can") here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/30144066_H5mkzM#!i=2633507079&k=DfBcTDh Dale Chihuly's official website is here: www.chihuly.com As always, I appreciate you taking the time to peruse and comment on my photos.
